Manager, REIT Accounting - Military Veterans

Overview

The Manager, REIT Accounting supervises the accounting function for the corporate and property level General Ledgers (G/L) of a diverse publicly traded REIT. This position requires close coordination with the VP of Accounting and Finance, Senior Accounting Manager, Manager of SEC Reporting, Accountants, other Accounting Department personnel, the Asset Management team and external third-party operators. A critical component of this role is developing and mentoring the accountants on the team.
Responsibilities

  • Manage month-end and quarterly close processes, including the analysis of financial results.
  • Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Ensure financial records are accurate and maintained in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
    • Mentor and develop the accountants on the team; provide feedback to the accountants to ensure growth and development.
    • Timely detail review workpapers prepared by the accountants.
    • Supervise the data integration of third-party operator results and ensure consolidation concepts are being properly followed.
    • Assist in the preparation and review of variance analysis and quarterly management reporting packages.
    • Review cash forecasts and ensure scheduled debt service payments are made timely.
    • Maintain communication with the third party senior living communities' managers, Department Managers, Corporate Accounting, AR/AP and the Asset Management team.
    • Manage internal and external audit and review requests on a quarterly and annual basis.
    • Assist in the preparation of board and committee materials.
    • Perform ad-hoc analysis as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and a strong record of success in work and academic environments.
  • 6 or more years of progressive accounting experience; REIT or real estate industry experience preferred.
  • Public accounting experience and CPA (preferred).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Yardi (preferred).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures with ability to research and recommend appropriate treatments.
  • Ability to propose and lead the application of new methodologies that satisfy systematic and scalable processes.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple deliverables at one time.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively communicate with business partners and management regarding accounting related matters.
  • Approachable and accessible.
