Sr Engineer: $88,500 - $118,000 - $147,500

Lead Engineer: $104,200 - $138,900 - $173,600

Principal Engineer: $108,700 - $144,900 - $181,100

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.* (Other hours as required)

*9-80 work schedule option available after probationary period

Position Overview:

This professional position is responsible for engineering duties on mechanical equipment including rotating equipment, piping systems, mechanical draft cooling towers, water systems, ash handling systems, and more. Applicant would be responsible for inspections, system improvement recommendations, project management, equipment overhauls, and repair plan creation.

• Provide technical support to Plant Operations and Maintenance on system improvements, troubleshooting, repair plans, process optimization and project implementation.

• Perform project engineering duties to overhaul and replace equipment including the development of budget, schedules, specifications, and documents.

• Identifying, developing, and initiating capital projects with an implementation date of one to three years in duration.

• Providing engineering support on facility safety initiatives when designing and/or redesigning work processes to eliminate workplace injuries.

• Lead large capital projects and engineering studies as assigned to support plant goals. Managing projects in compliance with Evergy' ethics, safety, and engineering standards.

• Participate in the capital and O&M budgeting process. Provide budgetary cost, schedule, and justification for future years' capital improvement projects.

• Keeping current in discipline, assess new technologies and ideas, develop, evaluate, and seek approval for new concepts to improve the efficiency and the capability of the process.

• Lead assigned efforts for improvements in support of safety and plant market mission.

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical information and prepare concisely written reports.

• Demonstrated degree of sound judgment, resourcefulness, initiative, and innovation in handling complex technical assignments, with minimal supervision.

• Periodically inspect equipment during outages (forced and scheduled) and develop repair plans based on applicable Codes and failure mechanisms.

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Engineer I

Assists experienced engineers in developing studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, budgets. Provides analytical support for consultation and recommendations to the Company within and to other business units and/or customers because of studying company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, vehicles or facilities. Collects and compiles financial data for budget and actual costs of projects.

Engineer II & Staff Engineer

Develops studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, budgets. Provides consultation and recommendations to the Company within and to other business units and/or customers because of studying company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, vehicles or facilities under an experienced engineer. Reviews financial data from budget and actual costs of projects under the guidance of an experienced engineer.

Sr/Lead/Principal Engineer

Develops studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, budgets. Provides consultation and recommendations to the Company within and to other business units and/or customers because of studying company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, vehicles or facilities. Reviews financial data from budget and actual costs of projects. Frequently operates independently and seeks guidance when appropriate. Generally, is looked to be a team lead. Operates independently with minimal instruction from supervisor.

Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil/Structural or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university (ABET). Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and design theory required. Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.

• Engineer I - 0-2 years of engineering experience
• Engineer II - 2 or more years of engineering experience
• Staff Engineer - 4 or more years of engineering experience
• Sr Engineer - Typically possesses 8 or more years of engineering experience and an active member of a recognized industry committee or published in recognized technical journals or at minimum has two related career experiences or clearly demonstrated team leadership abilities on critical projects.
• Lead Engineer - Typically possesses 12 or more years of engineering experience, demonstrate specialized expertise in key areas and meet requirements of Sr. Engineer. Professional Engineer Licensed preferred.
• Principal Engineer - Typically possesses 20 or more years of engineering experience in a specific area of engineering. Must meet Lead Engineering requirements.

Engineer I
• Provide technical assistance in support of others

• Demonstrate performance to think creatively and resourcefully in devising practical solutions to problems encountered
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex engineering systems

Engineer II
• Provide technical assistance in support of senior engineers
• Apply technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction
• Serve as qualified technical representative of the Company as assigned by keeping abreast of the latest developments and techniques pertaining to engineering and operating functions in the assigned field
• Achieve successful completion of assigned projects within economic and time constraints by acting as lead engineer
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex engineering systems
• Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.

Staff Engineer
• Provide technical assistance in support of senior engineers
• Influence project decisions having a small impact on the company
• Apply technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction
• Serve as qualified technical representative of the Company as assigned by keeping abreast of the latest developments and techniques pertaining to engineering and operating functions in the assigned field
• Achieve successful completion of assigned projects within economic and time constraints by acting as lead engineer
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex engineering systems
• Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.

Sr/Lead/Principal Engineer
• Influence project decisions having a moderate impact on the company
• Apply technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction
• Application of engineering principles to a broad range of requirements
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex engineering systems
• Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
• Ability to influence decisions affecting modifications or additions to system

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: None. ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code knowledge and experience preferred. Certified welding inspector (CWI) preferred. KS Professional Engineering license preferred for Senior and Lead Engineers. PE required for Principal Engineer.

Working Conditions: Power Generation Facility. Primarily office setting, but working in field/equipment areas expected regularly. Occasional equipment inspections in confined spaces. Nights, weekends, and Holiday work maybe required occasionally to support boiler related work at the facility.
