The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

The Community Content Strategist for Neighbors is responsible for handling the print media editorial and production process, event promotion, web content creation, and website upkeep that will help make Neighbors a go-to source for positive news at the intersection of Columbia University and its surrounding communities.
Reporting to the Director of Digital Content Strategy for Columbia News in the Office of Public Affairs (OPA) and working closely with the AVP of Communications for Columbia News & Columbia Neighbors, the Community Content Strategist works collaboratively across OPA ??? including the Columbia News and Government and Community Affairs (GCA) teams ??? and the university to create a helpful and informative source of information for our neighbors.
The Community Content Strategist must be a discerning critical thinker and independent self-starter who has the ability to collaborate with people in every role across the university. Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills are key as well as the ability to proactively manage multiple projects on deadline
Responsibilities
- PRINT & DIGITAL PRODUCT MANAGEMENT:
- Manage the print media production process for two Neighbors products, including drafting content, procuring translation, working with graphic designers, working with printers, mailing list curation and editing, and distribution of monthly and bi-annual print editions.
- Oversee the distribution of events and content on Manhattanville digital signage, including light editing and templated design.
- WRITTEN CONTENT CREATION:
- Produce and package community-focused content for Neighbors website, social media, e-newsletters, and communication materials, including advertising copy, press releases, promotional collateral, etc. for key university priorities, owning promotion of community-facing university programs.
- EVENTS AND PROGRAM PROMOTION:
- As the Neighbors events lead, the Community Content Strategist will proactively and reactively find events at the university and its surrounding neighborhoods of local interest to the community, update the Neighbors website to advertise those events, and coordinate social/digital promotion of events within the Neighbors team.
- This may include distributing event details to the public through local community calendars, working with digital signage, and other forms of event distribution.
- WEBSITE UPKEEP:
- With a sharp eye for detail and using data-driven methods, the Community Content Strategist is responsible for managing program areas on the Neighbors website, such as the Programs & Resources hub, Manhattanville Updates, and Voting Resource page, among others.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor???s degree required.
- Minimum 3-4 years related experience working in a communications role. A focus on government and community relations is a plus.
- Must be comfortable communicating in the digital vernacular and interfacing with digital communications tools, including content management systems, project management systems, and a variety of event-listing websites.
- Must possess exceptional interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to collaborate across different working styles.
- Must have strong organizational skills and a proven ability to effectively, efficiently, and proactively manage multiple ongoing projects and issues.
Other Requirements
- Experience with website upkeep, CMS and CRM systems, including familiarity with Mailchimp, Slack, Sprout, G Suite, Canva, inDesign, and PhotoShop. Experience with SiteKiosk is a plus.
- Bilingual English-Spanish language skills are a plus.
