As a QA/QC Inspector you will work in a team environment within LANL's nuclear facility inspection parts, supporting material movement, and becoming a glovebox operator 2 for operations/maintenance.

This position will be filled at either the QA/QC Inspector 3/4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

QA/QC Inspector 3 ($63,200 - $99,000)

PAQ-1 is seeking a Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) inspector to perform basic to complex set-ups, alignments, maintenance, operations, and/or calibration of conventional tools and/or equipment. You will evaluate the validity and acceptability of inspection results and monitor operations for adherence to project plans, specifications, and procedures. You will be involved with inspection of items against acceptance critiera using a range of inspection techniques ranging from open set up to CMMs and vision systems.

QA/QC Inspector 4 ($76,900 - $122,200)

You will perform moderate to highly-complex inspections on various machined components and assemblies using Quindos. You will operate/program inspection equipment (Coordinate Measuring Machines, optical systems, rotary and hard gages and other open setup equipment) and perform inspection operations using Quindos.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of and demonstrated experience in metrology and inspections operations. Working knowledge of and experience interpreting and applying GD&T technical principles, theories, and concepts, through engineering blueprints, sketches, specifications, and related data to assist in the evaluation of design factors, and conducting operational test and troubleshooting on systems and equipment.

Tools and Equipment: Working knowledge of performing set up, alignments, maintenance, operations, and/or calibration of conventional inspection tools and/or equipment.

Additional Job Requirements for QA/QC Inspector 4:

In addition to having advanced knowledge of the QA/QC Inspector 3 requirements, the QA/QC Inspector 4 must have the following:

Technical and Tools/Equipment Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of and experience in all described in the level 3 above.

Leadership Capabilities: Experience directing inspection activities and providing technical direction for less experienced inspectors, as assigned.

Education Requirements:

QA/QC 3: Position requires an Associate's Degree or formal Machinist Apprenticeship Program and 2 years of experience in equivalent machining, inspection, examination, or test activities; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

QA/QC 4: Position requires an Associate's Degree or formal Machinist Apprenticeship Program and 4 years of experience in equivalent machining, inspection, examination, or test activities; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation

Additional Requirements:

  • 426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job. DOE Order 426.2 requires a High School Diploma.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

Desired Qualifications:

Equipment: Demonstrated experience in researching, specifying, and selecting measurement and test equipment.

Software Knowledge: Experience in programming (CMMs), optical and/or vision systems for part inspection using metrology software packages such as Calypso, Quindos, PC-DMIS, or other related software.

Operation and Safety Experience: Experience with operations, safety requirements, and/or demonstrated experience working under the DOE Order 440.1B, High Explosives Safety Manual or alternately working in a nuclear facility under DOE O 422.1, Conduct of Operations.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations areat the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
