Job Description:
PParsons' Water Group in Pasadena, CA is now hiring for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Pasadena. In this role you will get to work with an established engineering design group experienced in design of wastewater treatment plant facilities. Willingness to travel or relocate to client's location in Orange County is expected. This position will initially work at a client's office in Orange County, CA, California.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Prepare detailed drawings, technical specifications, and scopes of work; and perform construction support services.
- Design or oversee design of mechanical piping systems, wastewater treatment systems, reclaimed water systems, lift stations, etc. including calculations.
- Perform design QA/QC reviews to perform a comprehensive multi-discipline deign review on assigned projects.
- Respond to engineering bid questions and addenda, respond to contractor’s request for information during construction of facility, verify that equipment meets design specifications, and prepare design changes.
- May function as discipline project engineer on medium to large projects, assuming responsibility for the work of the group.
- Leads other engineers and design personnel in technical excellence and growth in the Quality Improvement Process.
- Provides technical consultations for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses.
- Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer when required by statute or contract.
- Prepares material/equipment specifications and purchase requisitions; reviews supplier data; witnesses shop tests, assists with assessing supplier manufacturing capabilities.
- Develops operation and maintenance plans; develops standard operating procedures; prepares O & M manuals and may conduct on-site training of personnel.
- Conducts surveys, studies, and site investigations.
- Performs reliability, availability, maintenance (RAM) and safety analyses.
- Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- Potential to perform in a lead capacity, excellent written and oral communications skills, and a familiarity of industry practices and regulations are required.
- Must also possess a thorough knowledge of current technology and be able to select and apply appropriate engineering software for use on projects.
- Specific knowledge in the areas of: preparing hydraulic calculations; process piping design and layout; plumbing system design and layout; chemical storage system design and layout; chemical feed system design and layout; pumping system design and layout (including system head curves, pump curves, pump selection and motor sizing); liquids treatment system design, membrane bio-reactor system design, chlorine and UV disinfection system design, solids handling system design and layout; blower system design and layout, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) design and layout
- Working knowledge of various processes such as: headworks, primary clarifiers, aeration basins, secondary clarifiers, disinfection processes, anaerobic digestion, reverse osmosis, membrane bioreactors, solids dewatering and other membrane processes
- Knowledge and applications of industry codes and standards such as American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), etc. Ability to conduct independent field investigations and collect field data to support design work
- Ability to write specifications
- Ability to anticipate problems and develop viable solutions
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software Excellent team player Aggressive and a self-starter
- Familiarity in working within other design disciplines is desired
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit
- Good understanding of safety issues including Cal OSHA regulations
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering;
- Licensed Mechanical Engineer in the State of California is required;
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the design of wastewater treatment or similar industrial facilities;
- Good knowledge of the wastewater treatment environment and the nature of design and construction related thereof..
