Job Summary and Qualifications


You Will:   


  • Perform histology and cytology procedures including specimen processing/fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, IHC and special stains, case organization in accordance with department procedures. 
  • Assure positive sample, block and slide identification 
  • Prepare and maintains reagents for routine stains and histology procedures. 
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation per manufacturer & department procedures and per department schedule. 
  • Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed. 
  • Utilize independent judgement and problem solving skills to ensure the accuracy of procedures performed and proper equipment performance. Troubleshoots to and takes appropriate corrective action to resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely manner for resolution. 
  • Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed.

You Should Have:  


  • High School Diploma AND minimum two years of histology experience  
  • OR High School Diploma AND completion of an accredited program in Histotechnology  
  • OR Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Biology AND one year of histology experience  
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology or Chemistry  
  • National Certification as a MT (ASCP) or HT (ASCP) required  
  • State license where required (CA, FL, GA, HI, LA, MT, NV, NY, ND, RI, WV) 
  • Thorough knowledge of histology methods and correlation to disease processes  
  • Ability to follow protocols for the proper fixation and routine staining of samples 
  • Ability to consistently prepare and produce specimen sections with appropriate slide orientation, thickness, and stain quality for microscopic diagnosis by a pathologist 
  • Demonstrates good technique in the cutting, embedding, orientation and staining of specimens  
  • General knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements 
  • Excellent communication, team work and organizational skills. Sets a positive example. 
  • Ability to train others 
  • Effective and proactive problem solving and decision making skills
