Agency-wide Requirements

All applicants must be:

  • U.S. citizens (dual U.S. citizens also eligible)
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Willing to move to the Washington, DC area
  • Able to complete security and medical evaluations
  • Registered for the Selective Service


About the Job

As a Sign Language Interpreter for CIA, you will work alongside and support seasoned intelligence professionals with depth of knowledge in a range of topics, including specific geographic regions, technology, proliferation, and terrorism, among others. Due to the variety of positions held by the Agency's Deaf and hard-of-hearing employees, you must be flexible when it comes to assignments, have a diverse vocabulary, and a display a strong commitment to customer service. In addition to providing interpreting services, you will manage interoffice and interagency projects of varying levels of complexity in support of related programs such as reasonable accommodations and corporate accessibility. In the part time position, candidates would work 24 - 32 hours a week.

Foreign and domestic travel may be required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong signing and voicing skills
  • National sign language interpreter certification
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Broad knowledge of technical and human resource vocabulary
  • Strong understanding of ASL and Deaf culture
  • Ability to work within a changing schedule
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to meet the minimum requirements for joining CIA , including U.S. citizenship and a background investigation


Desired Qualifications

  • Federal reasonable accommodations training or work experience
  • Federal disability program management training or experience

Central Intelligence Agency

The Central Intelligence Agency's primary mission is to collect, evaluate, and disseminate foreign intelligence information to assist the President and senior US Government policymakers in making decisions related to international security.
