Agency-wide Requirements

All applicants must be:

  • U.S. citizens (dual U.S. citizens also eligible)
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Willing to move to the Washington, DC area
  • Able to complete security and medical evaluations
  • Registered for the Selective Service


About the Job

As a Contracting Officer Undergraduate Intern for CIA, you will work with an accomplished, diverse team of acquisition professionals that provide critical support to U.S. national security by providing a full range of contracting support to CIA. You will apply your business skills to diverse programs for technical collection systems, construction projects, information technology initiatives, and more.

At CIA, only the Contracting Officer is legally authorized to financially obligate the U.S. Government to acquire its products and services. Working in a team environment, you will learn and utilize innovative business practices to streamline the acquisition process and maximize resources. You will also manage a wide variety of unique and complex contract types to obtain the best value on behalf of the U.S. Government.

Two 90-day tours are preferred; however, one 90-day tour is the minimum requirement

Minimum Qualifications

  • Full-time student pursuing an undergraduate degree in one of the following fields or related studies:
    • Business
    • Finance
    • Management
    • Economics
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Accounting
    • Contracts/Acquisition/Procurement
    • Pre-Law
  • At least a 3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale
  • Two 90-day tours are preferred; however, one 90-day tour is the minimum requirement
  • Attending school on a full-time basis before/following this internship
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Attention to administrative detail
  • Ability to meet the minimum requirements for joining CIA , including U.S. citizenship and a background investigation

Central Intelligence Agency

The Central Intelligence Agency's primary mission is to collect, evaluate, and disseminate foreign intelligence information to assist the President and senior US Government policymakers in making decisions related to international security.

CIA carefully selects well-qualified people in nearly all fields of study.  Science, engineering, economics, foreign languages, mathematics and computer specialist are but a few of the professional continually in demand.  Military experience is a plus.  Applicants can view all positions vailble on the website (cia.gov/careers) and must apply online to be considered for a position.

Applicants must have US citizenship and the ability to successfully complete medical examinations and security procedures including a polygraph interview.  All positions are located in the Northern Virginia area.
