Agency-wide Requirements

About the Job

As a Science, Technology, and Weapons (STW) Analyst at CIA, you will apply your scientific and technical expertise to conduct intelligence analysis on foreign weapons systems, weapons proliferation, cyber warfare, and emerging technologies. You will work closely with regional specialists, military analysts, open-source experts, collection officers, and other Intelligence Community professionals to provide accurate, all-source estimates of foreign capabilities and intentions to senior decision makers.

STW Analysts draw upon their technical expertise to evaluate the threat that a foreign weapon or technology might present to U.S. interests. You will communicate your findings to policy and operational decision makers via a broad range of written intelligence products and verbal presentations. You will need to use your technical expertise, initiative, creativity, critical thinking, and strong communication and interpersonal skills on a daily basis to solve complex intelligence problems and drive intelligence collection efforts.

Opportunities exist for foreign and domestic travel, language training, analytic and management training, and assignments to other offices in the Agency and throughout the U.S. Government. Agency analysts are encouraged to maintain and broaden professional ties through academic study, contacts, and attendance at professional meetings. You may also choose to pursue additional studies in fields relevant to your areas of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in one of the following fields or related studies:
    • Aerospace Engineering
    • Applied Mathematics
    • Applied Physics
    • Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
    • Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering
    • Biological Sciences
    • Biotechnology and Microbiology
    • Chemical / Petroleum Engineering
    • Chemistry
    • Climate Science
    • Computer Engineering
    • Computer Science
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Industrial / Systems Engineering
    • Materials Science
    • Mechanical Engineering / Mechatronics
    • Nuclear Engineering
    • Physical Sciences
    • Remote Sensing
  • At least a 3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to meet the minimum requirements for joining CIA , including U.S. citizenship and a background investigation

Central Intelligence Agency

The Central Intelligence Agency's primary mission is to collect, evaluate, and disseminate foreign intelligence information to assist the President and senior US Government policymakers in making decisions related to international security.

CIA carefully selects well-qualified people in nearly all fields of study.  Science, engineering, economics, foreign languages, mathematics and computer specialist are but a few of the professional continually in demand.  Military experience is a plus.  Applicants can view all positions vailble on the website (cia.gov/careers) and must apply online to be considered for a position.
