Agency-wide Requirements

About the Job

As an NRO Inspector for the CIA, you will plan and perform mission-related inspections, multi-agency inspections, and special reviews while serving at the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). The NRO is in charge of designing, building, launching, and maintaining America's intelligence satellites.

You will plan and administer complex and technical inspections to include leading inspection teams or working with other inspectors. Your work responsibilities include assessing whether offices, components, or programs conduct activities in compliance with federal law, executive orders, presidential directives and other applicable internal regulations and policies. You will also advise senior managers of identified problems and make recommendations for corrective actions.

Examples of inspections include evaluating resource and program management, organizational structure, mission critical factors, workforce issues, and budget formulation/execution. Office of the Inspector General (OIG) inspection work is performed under the direction, control, and authority of the Inspector General, and adheres to the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency Quality Standards for Inspection and Evaluation.

You will be hired as an employee of the Central Intelligence Agency and subsequently detailed to the NRO. You will work in an office or a field environment. Domestic and foreign travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience demonstrating knowledge/expertise in one of the following areas: Space Systems Engineering, Operations and Facilities Security, Space and Ground Operations, Facilities Engineering and Management, Intelligence Oversight, System Architecture, Security/CI/Safety, Human Resources, and Acquisition/Program Management
  • Knowledge of NRO overhead intelligence systems
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with people under a wide variety of conditions
  • Ability to plan, organize, evaluate and conduct thorough and objective analysis of complex issues
  • Ability to travel occasionally, both domestically and overseas
  • Ability to meet the minimum requirements for joining CIA , including U.S. citizenship and a background investigation.


Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Association of Certified Fraud Examiners)
  • Previous experience conducting inspections
  • Ability to elicit information via interviews and focus groups
  • Knowledge of the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense
