The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Brown Health Medical Group is seeking an academic clinical microbiologist to serve as a Director of Microbiology and Molecular Infectious Disease for the health care system which includes Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Hasbro Children?s, Newport Hospital, Bradley Hospital, Morton Hospital, Saint Anne?s Hospital and outpatient physician group practices. The laboratory performs over 650,000 tests a year in the sub-specialty areas of bacteriology, molecular microbiology and virology, mycobacteriology and mycology. The position will include responsibilities in directing the Medical Microbiology and Molecular Infectious Disease Laboratories, coordinating the services with other laboratory sections, and working with medical specialists in infectious disease and infection control physicians in addressing institutional needs in microbiology. Candidates with expertise and experience in molecular virology testing and molecular diagnostic test development are preferred. The successful candidate must qualify for a full-time medical faculty position in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Minimum requirements include: M.D., D.O., and/or Ph.D. with fellowship training in Clinical Microbiology (M.D. or Ph.D.) with Board certification in Clinical Microbiology from the American Board of Pathology or American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM), and the ability to obtain any required licensure in the State of Rhode Island to serve as a laboratory medical director. The position will include responsibilities in directing the Medical Microbiology and Molecular Infectious Disease Laboratories, coordinating the services with other laboratory sections, and working with medical specialists in infectious disease and infection control physicians in addressing institutional needs in microbiology. Candidates with expertise and experience in molecular virology testing and molecular diagnostic test development are preferred. The candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independent research program in the general area of microbiology and/or infectious disease. The candidate will also be expected to participate in teaching Pathology residents and Infectious Disease fellows, teaching Pathology and Laboratory Medicine courses, supervising clerkships for medical students at Brown University and/or in providing instructional support to the medical technology training programs in the Department of Pathology. Candidates must have experience directing a high-complexity laboratory, preferably in a university hospital or comparable institution with an active Infectious Disease service.
