Professional (+) (Fixed Term) Position Details: The Opportunity: Cougs Rise , a student success initiative of the Office of Academic Engagement (OAE) , invites candidates to apply for a Student Services Coordinator to join our team. You will be an integral member of the team, working alongside the Director to develop and implement academic year and summer programming, supervising student mentors, and functioning as a liaison with external constituents. You will provide senior-level academic advising, guidance, and other services to students, utilizing specific knowledge of college transition, persistence, and completion; independently provide one-on-one counseling focused on academic skills, tutoring, guidance, and mentoring; and independently provide group services and deliver program curriculum in a variety of formats (classroom, field, virtual, etc.). You will also research and identify new opportunities for student recruitment and develop targeted outreach plans. About Cougs Rise and OAE : OAE develops and implements initiatives that support access, achievement, and affordability for undergraduates, enabling them to engage in the highly impactful academic experiences of WSU. Cougs Rise works specifically with low-income and first-generation students transitioning to college, delivering programming, advising, and mentoring that builds a supportive community and long-term success. Work location: During the academic year (September to May), this position is based in Spokane, WA, working within area high schools four days per week and working remotely one day per week. During the summer (June to August), the position is remote, with the exception of a four-week student programming period when the position is based on the WSU Pullman campus. During this on-campus component, lodging is provided. Expectations: As one of the primary professional team members for Cougs Rise, you will have service and supervisory expectations during student programming and activities. Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends. The successful candidate will display teamwork and a paramount concern for program responsibilities, student needs, and participant safety. Individuals who are first-generation college graduates and/or from low-income backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Required Qualifications: Positions require a Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Demonstrated experience working successfully with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the public. Demonstrated experience in student service programming. Broad knowledge of, and work experience with, student transition issues and retention related to the target population. Demonstrated computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability, and willingness, to work some weekends and evenings. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in education or related field. Experience with programs serving the target populations. Conflict and crisis management experience. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a highly collaborative environment. Well-developed written, verbal, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated and extensive problem-solving and decision-making skills. Temporary End Date: Due to the nature of the position's grant funding, this position is listed as temporary with an expected end on September 1, 2025. However, the grants supporting this position have been established at WSU since 2017 and are expected to continue well into and beyond 2027. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
