Underground Construction Manager - Military Veterans

The Underground Construction Manager oversees the construction of projects and monitors activities at worksites. Responsible for managing multiple crews (employees and contractors), ensure quality, health and safety codes are observed and ensures completion of work to schedule. Provides daily updates to management regarding project completion. Underground Construction Manager also helps develop contracts, liaise with subcontractors and vendors, and perform other administrative tasks.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, organizes and oversees multiple underground construction projects.
- Perform site inspections for quality control for in house and contract labor.
- Manages and oversee employees and equipment.
- Provides daily updates to management on projects from start to completion.
- Assist in recruitment/hire of all positions under area of responsibility.
- Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Track and trend expenditures and approve invoices within budgetary guidelines.
- Manage inventory requirements for construction projects.
- Authorize company expenditures related to construction activities.
- Comply with system, corporate and FCC requirements by compiling and generating reports and statistics on construction activities on a timely basis.
- Build and maintain positive relationships by representing Charter with utilities, developers, permitting agencies and government officials.
- Handle customer and employee problems related to construction.
- Maintain open communications with other departments.
- Perform field walkouts as required.
- Ensure adherence to terms and conditions of agreements.
- Oversee permitting and make-ready process including utilities locates.
- Review and approve damage claims.
- Establish positive employee relations through effective communication and ongoing support.
- Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
- Know, understand and follow company policies.
- Perform other duties as requested by senior leadership.
Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
- Experience in CATV prints, equipment and understanding
- Extensive experience and knowledge of underground installation practices
- Strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft office suite
- Ability to read and understand underground utility maps and prints
- Ability to think analytically, solve problems, make decisions and apply sound judgement while working under pressure
- Ability to supervise and motivate others
- Knowledge of all FCC compliance reports and other rules and regulations
- Demonstrated understanding of applicable local and state rules and regulations
- Demonstrated understanding of OSHA rules and regulations, both federal and state
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED required
Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years
- Leadership/Supervisor experience – 5+
- Equipment and technical experience – 5+
- Project management experience – 5+
Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
OSHA safety certifications
Preferred Education
High school diploma and associates or equivalent job related experience
Preferred Related Work Experience and Number of Years
Horizontal Drill and plow methods installation methods preferred-5-8
Practical working experience with underground construction and equipment for both conduit and fiber installation
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work outdoors in all kinds of weather and at all times of the day or night Work performed in utility easements May require extended hours including evenings and weekends
