Position Summary The Director of Business Administration (DBA) for Center X in the School of Education & Information Studies serves as a member of the Center X leadership team. The DBA is responsible for the financial and operational oversite of a large and complex center dedicated to research, academic degree program instruction, professional development initiatives and fee for service projects. In collaboration with the Executive Director and Faculty Director of Center X, the DBA provides direction and management of the administrative operations for the Center. This includes day-to-day decision-making, oversite of space and resource management, the development and implementation of administrative controls to assure that actions, both financial and personnel actions, are prepared, submitted and carried out in accordance with Center, department, and University policy. The DBA independently develops and establishes administrative procedures that align with established SE&IS and University Guidelines while ensuring that they support the Center's mission. As a member of the leadership team, the DBA implements, monitors, and evaluates long and short-term administrative goals for the Center regularly assessing the Center's progress towards those goals and making adjustments and/or improvements as needed. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications 10 years or more of directly related or relevant experience as manager or administrator of a research, academic, and/or professional development unit in which responsibilities included personnel management, fiscal planning and monitoring and coordinated allocation of resources across multiple project and funding sources. (Required) Demonstrated managerial and leadership skills to direct a large administrative and professional staff including organizing work flow to accomplish established objectives, delegating responsibility, interviewing and selecting for vacant positions, providing training, reviewing assignments and providing feedback, setting priorities, evaluating performance, and administering necessary discipline. (Required) Advanced knowledge of Human Resources and payroll policies and procedures. Preferably in a university or contractor research environment. (Required) Skill in writing a variety of materials, including correspondence, procedural manuals, directions, job descriptions, and other materials in order to explain policies and procedures. (Required) Ability to read and understand contract and grant directives, policy and procedural manuals, memos and other materials sufficient to determine appropriate actions and to understand and communicate information to other staff members. (Required) Decision-making and prioritization skills to effectively allocate space, funding, equipment, and other resources. (Required) Demonstrated ability to work independently, use initiative, follow through, and manage others without supervision. (Required) Demonstrated skill in financial planning, budget preparation, fiscal monitoring, control and administration of a multi-million dollar budget with multiple funding sources. Ability to prepare and present financial reports to research management. (Required) Ability to understand research projects and activities sufficient to develop plans to address objectives and priorities. (Required) Demonstrated skill to independently examine information, identify existing and potential problems, define objectives and formulate plans for resolution. Ability to think about the direction in which an organization is going, foresee new developments and assist in establishing and prioritizing organizational goals and objectives. (Required) Demonstrated management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others. (Required) Demonstrated organizational skills to work effectively within a complex and rapidly changing organization to simultaneously manage a wide range of active projects and responsibilities to perform a variety of duties with frequently changing priorities and deadlines. (Required) Advanced knowledge of the university's systems. (Preferred) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in social science, management, organizational leadership, business administration or related field. (Required) Master's Degree Advanced degree in social science, management, organizational leadership, business administration or related field. Years of experience may substitute for education.
