The Staff Research Associate I (SRA I) will perform standard repetitive, technical laboratory and/or field experimental procedures and/or receive training in the more difficult procedures requiring a theoretical background in one scientific field under close technical supervision. Under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), the SRA I will be involved in research centered on signaling mechanisms involved in the development of emphysema/COPD, including molecular and cellular studies in mammalian cell lines and primary cells as well as in vivo mouse models. This position will mainly be responsible for designing and implementing genetic strategies to delete important developmental pathways in the mouse lung to assess their role in the maintenance of normal lung architecture. This will involve the breeding and genotyping of mouse models, surgery and injections of animals, and the dissection of lung from experimental animals. The analyses involve standard cell and molecular biology methods that include cell culture, transfection, subcloning, RNA extraction and quantitative PCR, protein extraction and immunoprecipitation, tissue sectioning and immunofluorescent microscopy. This position will be responsible for ordering lab supplies, reagents and antibodies. The SRA I will work with PI directly. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).
