Position Summary:
The Dean of Students provides leadership and oversight of day-to-day operations and related initiatives in support of student success in the following Student Service areas - Student Conduct, Behavioral/Student Wellness Services, Disability Services, Adult Transitions and various grant-funded support programs, such as Student Success.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage Dean of Students Office, Learning Support Services, Behavior/Student Wellness, Adult Transitions and Student Success Initiatives.
  • Oversee WCC Adult Education Program to establish and implement adult education programs for area individuals and employers, including basic instruction to adult learners and instruction of ESL .
  • Oversee Learning Support Service ( LSS ) ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA ), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other relevant laws and regulations.
  • Work with Dean of Enrollment Management & Student Experience to provide services in support of recruitment, orientation and enrollment of new students.
  • Work with Director of Student Affairs to develop procedures to ensure compliance with relevant Federal (Clery Act, Title IX, and Safe and Drug-Free Schools, etc.), state, and local laws and regulations along with college policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the conduct process as described in the Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct Code policy to include serving as the judicial officer of the College receiving reports of possible misconduct from academic, student, or Public Safety staff. Review the material, hold hearings, and perform investigations, process disciplinary notifications, maintain a database of disciplinary information, and deliver and uphold disciplinary sanctions when warranted.
  • In conjunction with Vice President of Student Services reviews, revises, and develops policy and procedures.
  • Lead the WCC Care Team (campus BIT - Behavior Intervention Team).
  • Serve students by hearing complaints that do not have a prescribed resolution procedure and that cross WCC divisional or departmental boundaries.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with Washtenaw Community College Public Safety Department to provide a safe environment for students.
  • Provides consultation and support to faculty, staff, administrators, students, Department of Public Safety, in the areas including but not limited to: conduct administration, policy interpretation, disruptive student behavior, and crisis response.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Student Affairs, provide campus-wide training and education for judicial affairs.
  • Consult with General Counsel on student conduct and other potential legal matters.
  • Oversee the management and documentation of the student conduct data base.
  • Work with the Director of Student Affairs to receive and investigate complaints and assists in mediating disputes.
  • Manage the College's behavioral assessment activities. Receive, investigate and process all student behavior referrals in conjunction Director of Student Affairs.
  • Provide administrative oversight regarding the development/implementation of LSS procedures.
  • Serve as deputy officer under the Title IX officer, for Title IX issues relating to students.
  • Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.
  • Support weekend and evening student crises.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • FLSA: Salary - Exempt

    Hours/Days/Year: 2080

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Masters and/or professional degree in a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • At least seven (7) years of relevant progressive leadership and professional experience in student services or related field.
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with technology, systems and tools used to provide and enhance services supporting students.
  • Strong communication skills including- presentation, public speaking, oral and written.
  • Ability to exhibit leadership, initiative, enthusiasm, teamwork and collaboration with faculty, staff and students.
  • Proven excellent interpersonal skills for effective regular contact with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong multicultural competency with extensive experience and working knowledge in DEI.


  • Salary/Hourly Rate: $93,931 - $103,324
