Job Summary
The Shop Technician is responsible for servicing and repairing equipment in the
shop.
Essential Functions
full time M-F, 7:30-4:30
* MIG welding
* metal fabrication and equipment production - primarily steel
* modification/installation of heavy duty truck chassis, bodies and components
* installation of hydraulic components and complete systems
* basic chassis electrical and lighting
* 95% new equipment - eliminating the dirt, grease and road grime associated with used equip.
Qualifications
fully competent use and knowledge of:
- steel MIG welders.
- oxy/acetylene torch
- angle grinder/sander up to 9 inch dia.
- various power and hand tools
- measurement devices down to 1/16
* ability to provide, maintain and appropriately use protective gear including:
- safety toe boots
- welding helmet, jacket and gloves
* own a tool chest with basic hand, pneumatic, power and cordless tools. (detailed during visit/interview)
* accurate comprehension/execution of instruction and work strategy
* work efficiently both as individual and jump in on team effort jobs
* produce quality, detailed oriented work
* routinely lift up to 100 lbs
* maintain a clean and orderly work area
Typical Physical Activity
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to occasionally lift 100 pounds from floor to chest; reach and use the arms with a full range of motion; endure prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and squatting while performing mechanical operations; exert push and pull forces with the arms in order to use various wrenches and tools; endure prolonged forward and overhead arm positions while performing mechanical operations; use hands to grasp hand tools and parts and climb onto and operate equipment.
Typical Environmental Conditions
Employee regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts. May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times. Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment. Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places .
