The UNC Greensboro School of Theatre, housed within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, seeks an accomplished and collaborative leader with extensive academic and administrative experience as well as significant achievements as a theatre artist and/or scholar. The Director of the School of Theatre is a ten-month position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of Theatre with tenure. This position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The successful candidate will:
Provide visionary leadership to the diverse School of Theatre by guiding strategic planning, facilitating direction, and fostering collaboration among faculty, staff, and students.
Experience providing leadership that advances equity, accessibility, community building, and inclusivity in strategic administrative decision making, faculty development, recruitment, curriculum design, programming, and interactions with our students and our community.
Evidence of continuous professional development in key diversity competencies, including culturally responsive pedagogy, racial literacy, LGBTQIA+ inclusivity, and supporting students with diverse abilities.
Lead and manage all aspects of the School of Theatre, including academic programs, production seasons, and faculty development.
Manage fiscal and business resources through comprehensive budgeting.
Provide effective personnel management and interpersonal skills with a proven record of sustaining positive collaborations between colleagues, building successful teams, and mentoring professionals and students.
Promote and advocate for the School of Theatre within the College, University, and community.
Maintain balance and equity between the academic areas of the School of Theatre while supporting faculty research, creative activity, and professional development.
Collaborate with faculty to support and develop innovative curricula, initiatives, and teaching that are responsive to the evolving needs of students and the development of the theatre industry.
Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in areas of expertise to a diverse student body.
Promote professional alliances including fostering partnerships within the University and with external organizations to enhance educational and professional opportunities for students.
Minimum Qualifications
Terminal degree or equivalent professional experience with evidence of outstanding teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service.
Credentials appropriate for a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
Proven record of inclusive and strategic leadership, fostering faculty and student development to enhance diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.
Significant experience in fiscal oversight and management.
Experience establishing and maintaining the confidence of a faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the professional community.
Ability to contribute to UNCGs core values of inclusiveness, collaboration, sustainability, and transparency.
Experience managing complex projects and academic programs.
Preferred Qualifications
An ongoing engagement with the field that demonstrates a broad range of historic and contemporary practices in pedagogy, scholarship, and artistry.
Three years of administrative or leadership experience at the collegiate level
Demonstrated understanding of current challenges in higher education, particularly how systemic inequities shape institutional dynamics.
Record of community engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration.
