The University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a highly qualified Business Research Director. The Business Research Director will be responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and development of innovative and strategic research programs for the department?s research mission. This individual will provide oversight and support to investigators within the department to cultivate positive, productive, and innovative research programs. This position will have direct supervisory responsibilities of multiple units, in addition to management of projects/tasks associated with research business operations.
Essential Functions
- Manage, oversee, plan, and conduct research; manage daily activities, including project development, data collection and data analysis. Oversee regulatory services and assists with strategic planning and development.
- Assist investigators in grant preparation and grant writing activities, NIH biosketches, budget preparation, and grant packaging. Manage grant planning and participate in grant submission meetings. Manage grant planning to ensure timely submissions.
- Develop training and education programs for investigators, trainees, and research staff on various aspects of research and regulatory services. Develop and manage a data base to track mandatory training.
- Develop standard operating procedures within research and regulatory services. Troubleshoot problems with investigators and processes, analyze issues and present solutions. Consults investigators and coordinators in compliance with IRB, FDA and UC regulations.
- Acts as a resource to train and mentor Business Administrators and Managers on department and university finance and operations practices related to research.
- Engages with department and division leadership to initiate strategic planning and development of research programs within the department to improve research program success and increase external funding.
- Develop, analyze and compile metrics and data to assist in evaluation of research programs. Oversee contracted services, and development of efficient workflows.
- Provide direct and indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
- Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Required Education
Bachelor?s Degree.
Required Experience
Seven (7) or more years of related work experience.
