Instrumentation, Controls, & Electrical Technician - Military Veterans

1. Role and Scope of Position:
The Instrumentation Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems and electrical equipment in the power plant and the associated facilities. The IC&E Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems.
2. Essential Functions:
- Perform preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems as well as emergency backup systems, including the use of CMMS.
- Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
- Assist in maintaining and controlling spare parts inventory to maintain plant reliability. Assist in physical inventories.
- Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant procedures, operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
- Assist contractor/outside technicians performing in-plant electrical and control system repairs/upgrades.
- Assist in operation of plant equipment and systems as directed.
- Inspect repair, install and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems up to and including 4160 volts.
- Participate in plant housekeeping activities as directed.
- Conduct troubleshooting and analysis on DCS, PLC and turbine control equipment.
- Maintain all plant instrumentation and electrical test equipment.
- Fully support and participate in Environmental, Safety, and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
- Perform all tasks qualified to perform due to knowledge, experience, training or license held.
- Ability to work on shift over days/nights/weekends as needed.
- Assist in training other Technicians as needed.
- Keep management informed of any security issues noticed during shift.
- 100% punctuality and ability to timely answer callouts is required.
- Perform All other duties as assigned by the IC&E Foreman.
3. Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skills:
· Proficient with operating and maintaining power plant equipment.
· Ability to read and understand engineering prints and electrical/control schematics as required to complete assignments.
· Must be able to operate on high energy electrical equipment.
· Proficiency with computers with the ability to quickly learn and operate new software.
· Proficiency with Microsoft systems such as Excel, Word, and outlook required.
· Ability to assess situations for safety and equipment hazards.
· Ability to calmly respond to emergency situations.
· Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in order to solve problems of both a technical and operational nature.
· Ability to communicate and work well with others.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience: Three years IC&E experience required.
Licenses & Certifications: Driver’s License is required. Journeyman license preferred.
4. Working Conditions:
· IC&E Technician will be exposed to inclement weather and extreme high and low temperatures when working outdoors.
· IC&E Technician will be exposed to a high decibel level while working and will be equipped with the appropriate PPE.
· IC&E Technician will need to work in confined spaces with a respirator.
5. Problem Solving & Complexity:
· IC&E Technician must have the ability to troubleshoot and repair Power Plant machinery with little supervision.
6. Physical Aspects:
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (without assistance)
· Ability to stand/walk for up to 8 hours each day.
· Must be able to pass a respirator fit test.
· Must meet and maintain the physical requirements to pass a DOT physical.
· Capable of working in confined spaces
· Capable of working at height
