Responsibilities
Job Summary
The Home and Community Bases Services Aide is a person who provides support, assistance with personal
hygiene and household functions for an individual to be able to remain in their own home.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Reports observations of the client's condition to the Agency Director or accounts manager. Notifies the Agency Director immediately if any incidents or accidents occur.
- Drives safely, complies with traffic regulations, and wears a seat belt when business travel is required.
- May provide or assist clients with activities of daily living including: bathing in bed, tub or shower; care of hair including shampoo, combing and brushing; care of teeth and mouth including denture care; nail care, filing only; skin care including pericare and applying lotion; transfer of patient from bed to chair and to wheelchair. Transfer of patients on and off bedpan, commode and toilet.
- Assists with household tasks directly essential to clients personal care.
Education and Experience
Experience Desired
- Six months experience in home care preferred.
- Successful completion of a competency evaluation.
License Requirements
- Current driver's license, vehicle insurance and access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation.
- Current CPR certification.
State Specific Requirements
- AR: Private Care-Licensed Agencies: Must have completed a 40 hour aide training course approved by Arkansas Department of Health and be certified as a personal care aide.
- CT: Must have completed a training program approved by the state of Connecticut of not less than 75 hours.
- LA: Current CNA certification or successful completion of a training program.
- MD: Certified by the Maryland Board of Nursing as a certified nursing assistant and basic first aid certification.
- NY: Successful completion of a basic training program in home health aide services or an equivalent exam approved by the Department with written evidence of completion.
- PA: Must have successfully completed a competency examination meeting the requirements of 611.55 (b) and (c); OR successful completion of a training program meeting the requirements of 611.55 (b) and (c); OR successful completion of a home health aide training program meeting the requirements of 42 CFR 484.36; OR successful completion of the nurse aide certification and training program approved by the Department of Education ; OR a training program meeting the training standards of a Medicaid waiver or other funded program providing home and community based services to qualifying consumers.
- TN: Successful completion of a total of seventy-five (75) hours of training which include sixteen (16) hours of clinical training prior to or during the first three (3) months of employment and who is qualified to provide basic services, including simple procedures as extension of therapy services, personal care regarding nutritional needs, ambulation and exercise, and household services essential to health care at home.
- TX: Must have a minimum of one-year full-time experience in direct client care in hospital or nursing facility, OR one year full- time experience within last 5 years in direct client care in agency setting, OR documented completion of training and competency evaluation program with home health experience within the last 24 months, OR documented completion of competency evaluation program with home health experience within the last 24 months, OR nursing student with documentation from director of programs or the dean of a school of nursing that states that the individual is a nursing student who has demonstrated competency in basic nursing skills aligned with the school's curriculum, OR be on Texas Department of Human Services (DHS's) Nurse Aide Registry with no findings of client abuse or neglect or misappropriation of client property. Must NOT be listed on the Employee Misconduct Registry, been revoked on the Nurse Aide Registry, or had a criminal conviction as listed in Health and Safety Code Chapter 250.
- VA: Successful completion of a competency evaluation in-service training.
- WI: Must be listed on the Wisconsin Home Health Aide Registry.
- KY, OH, MO, NC: No additional requirements.
