Engineering Technologist III - Sr Engineering Technologist

This is the third level of thenon-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. Engineering Technologist III provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.

Sr Engineering Technologist is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy. Senior Engineering Technologist provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work

Responsibilities

  • This position provides technical support for the operation and maintenance of utility boilers and related equipment.
  • Provides technical input to project engineers for capital and O&M budgets.
  • Performs boiler & equipment inspections and reports preparation/presentation.
  • Provides technical support during forced outages.
  • Provides technical direction for repairs, upgrades and component replacements
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
  • Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Basic/Required Qualifications - Engineering Technologist III
  • Associates in Engineering Technology and a minimum of 5 year related experience
  • In Lieu of degree, High School/GED and 9 years of related experience
Basic/Require Qualifications - Sr Engineering Technologist

  • Associates Degree in Engineering Technology and a minimum of 8 years of experience /
  • In Lieu of Degree - HS/GED and 12 years equivalent experience.

Additional Preferred Qualifications - Engineering Technologist III
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in the utility industry.

Additional Preferred Qualifications - Sr Engineering Technologist
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in the utility industry.
  • Bachelors in Engineering Technology
  • Demonstrates skills applying leadership in the areas of technical project management, program oversight and/or governance.
  • Boiler inspection experience
  • Boiler operational experience
  • Knowledgeable of ASME Section I and B31.1
  • Knowledgeable in thermal performance
  • Knowledgeable of common boiler construction materials
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational/planning skills, with ability to balance work priorities
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analysis skills

Specific Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Either 3+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 5+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 9+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
