Director, Custodial Services (CUSTODIAL MGR 2) Job Summary This position oversees a large department through subordinate managers. This position reports to the Executive Director of Facilities Services-Student Housing and Dining Services and is responsible in managing the custodial department in a 24 hour, 7 days a week program. Has significant responsibility to achieve broadly stated goals through subordinate managers. Determines objectives, directs programs, develops strategies and policies, accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and physical resources, with a high degree of autonomy. Utilizes the asset management system (AMS) and plays a critical role in the department's continued development, implementation and assessment of the AMS. Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Determines strategies for a program with organizational-wide impact. This position serves as a member of the Facilities Services Leadership Team and acts as a liaison/facilitator between the department and UC Davis Facilities Management as well as other University departments. Manages custodial and housekeeping functions across multiple locations. Works on issues requiring an in-depth knowledge of organizational and professional objectives. May serve as a subject matter expert. Department Overview Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) is a self-supporting auxiliary that provides housing and dining services to approximately15,000 undergraduate, graduate, and students with families who live in on-campus residential facilities (university owned/managed and Public-Private-Partnerships), as well as providing residential, retail and catering dining services for the campus community. Apply By November 14, 2023 at 11:59pm Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training Minimum of five years of progressively responsible senior level management experience (or equivalent level of practical experience) in planning, organizing and directing a diverse workforce involved in the custodial operations of large commercial complexes in a higher education environment. Including knowledge of codes and policies impacting residential and dining facilities. Supervisory experience to select, train, evaluate, develop staff, and implement performance management techniques for direct reports, and expectations for supervisors. Experience managing budgets, account management, cost tracking, schedules and master planning documents. Proven leadership skills and experience in managing custodial teams delivering basic cleaning services, with the ability to motivate employees and maintain high morale. Strong analytical and management skills with the ability to independently recommend solutions to complex problems and issues. Proficiency in various software programs needed to perform job functions, including word processing, email, calendaring, asset management software, spreadsheets, Tririga, and procurement software, as well as operating mobile devices. Writing skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, agreements, training documents, and performance evaluations. Experience in developing and implementing process improvement strategies and initiatives. Preferred Qualifications Experience and working knowledge of specialty cleaning programs, including industry standards and maintenance of various cleaning equipment. Proficiency in presenting complex data for decision-making, and creating and evaluating analytical approaches and financial models. Strong understanding of fundamental business management and accounting principles, with the ability to make effective judgments and lead meetings, train staff, evaluate business needs, and solve organizational problems. Demonstrated ability to supervise unionized staff and familiarity with the collective bargaining process; provide quality customer service; and offer leadership in emergency situations.
