BASIC PURPOSE: This position is responsible for supporting refined operations at the terminal by transferring
product to load and unload railcars, storage tanks, and vessels in compliance with provided training, work instructions, and government regulations.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: • Ensure compliance with operating procedures to maintain a safe environment and efficient operations.
• Offload the rail cars that come to the terminal by moving the product into storage tanks.
• Climb on top and underneath railcars to inspect railcars.
• Perform valve lineups, prepare and gauge petroleum products for transferring to and from tanks, trucks,
pipelines and rail cars.
• Operate terminal-specific mobile equipment and rail car equipment.
• Obtain gauge readings and obtain samples from storage tanks.
• Follow policies and use/wear the required safety equipment and gear.
• Understand and execute processes for safe and efficient tank car unloading to prevent product contamination,
spills, or product loss.
• Unload truck trailers, store materials in appropriate locations, and receive and track materials in the terminal
inventory system.
• Operate refined fuel equipment safely and efficiently to load, unload, and move items.
• Perform routine tank inspections, make analyses of tank contents and prepare records as required.
• Follow established department SOP's to operate blending/mixing machines.
• Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work area.
• Conduct quality control tests in order to monitor processing and to ensure that standards are met. Draw
samples of products for laboratory testing.
• Record data such as process conditions, test results, and instrument readings.
• Maintain a variety of records in written or electronic form regarding cleaning and product batches.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Education:
o HS Diploma or equivalent
• Experience:
o Previous rail yard, fuel terminal, terminal operations experience strongly preferred
o 1-3 year of experience in a warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing preferred
SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Skills:
o Ability to read and understand processes and procedures.
o Ability to perceive color differences.
o Ability to learn and use electronic, communication and technology systems on a regular basis.
o Basic math skills
o Willing and able to work a 5-day schedule with possible overtime required while maintaining
workplace composure.
o Willing and able to work any shifts on any days, as schedules may fluctuate due to business need.
o Highly motivated, self-starter, and a team player
o Thorough understanding of terminal procedures and regulations
o Must be able to work irregular shifts and work days/nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
• Typical Physical Demands:
o Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your
whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
o Ability to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and work in elevated areas of the plant.
o Must have the ability to lift over 50lbs during a scheduled work shift.
o Ability to work in all weather conditions outside (heat, cold, wet, humid, and/or windy conditions)
o Ability to climb 40-70 feet on top of the rail cars and storage tanks.
