Purchasing Manager - Military Veterans

MEPPI’s Transportation Systems Division is on the hunt for a dynamic Purchasing Manager to oversee and elevate our purchasing operations!

In this role, you’ll take the lead in planning, purchasing, vendor management, and ensuring seamless delivery and returns for our innovative products. You’ll also spearhead materials management, aligning with MEPPI’s advanced business systems and production schedules to maximize efficiency and keep our operations running smoothly.

What You’ll Do:







  • Coordinate Product Deliveries:


    Serve as the main contact with Mitsubishi Electric Japan to manage delivery schedules. Collaborate with internal teams to establish delivery forecasts that align with production and inventory needs.







  • Manage Procurement Strategy:


    Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions with suppliers to secure favorable agreements. Resolve conflicts and manage cost recovery for non-conforming materials (MRR).







  • Support Proposal Development:


    Work closely with Sales and Marketing to provide material and equipment cost estimates for proposal preparation.







  • Oversee Capital Expenditures:


    Lead sourcing, negotiation, and procurement of capital expenditures to support division operations.







  • Ensure Policy Compliance:


    Approve purchase orders following the Company’s Limits of Authority Policy and review Purchasing Terms and Conditions Summaries to ensure alignment with corporate guidelines.







  • Maintain Inventory Levels:


    Monitor and manage inventory levels for production materials, including bill of materials items, electrical and mechanical components, and expense items, ensuring smooth production operations.







  • Lead and Develop the Team:


    Manage the purchasing and sourcing team, providing training, cross-training, and continuous education opportunities. Conduct performance reviews and make recommendations for salary adjustments.







  • Review and Approve Documentation:


    Evaluate quotes, proposals, requisitions, and purchase orders for accuracy and policy compliance. Collaborate with legal counsel as needed to develop contracts for materials and services.







  • Support Spare Parts Procurement:


    Oversee the procurement of spare parts inventories, focusing on quality assurance and delivery control.







  • Foster Collaboration and Professionalism:


    Build and maintain strong relationships with other MEPPI departments, suppliers, and stakeholders, ensuring timely and cooperative interactions.







  • Promote Quality, Safety, and Environmental Policies:


    Advocate for and support MEPPI’s Quality, Safety, and Environmental Policies, demonstrating their importance in daily operations.







What You Bring:







  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field.







  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in purchasing, subcontracts, or materials coordination, including 3+ years in a management role—or equivalent education and experience.







  • Skills:





    • Advanced knowledge of purchasing systems and techniques, including global procurement.


    • Strong negotiation skills for terms, conditions, and subcontractor agreements.


    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex challenges.


    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MRP/ERP systems, and relational databases.








  • Other Qualifications:





    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills to effectively collaborate with employees, vendors, and customers.


    • Ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, fostering growth and success.


    • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities.
