Location: Gardner, MA Category: Faculty Posted On: Wed Oct 23 2024 Job Description: General Statement of Duties: Mount Wachusett Community College seeks a faculty member to teach a variety of courses within the English department. The primary teaching responsibilities will be first-year composition and other courses in literature and writing as needed. The department is looking for an educator who believes that engagement and authentic teaching matters in the pursuit of student success and achievement. To this end, the successful candidate will work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings. Responsibilities: Teach a range of courses in the English Department, as assigned by the Dean. Develop curricula and prepare and deliver instruction as needed. Assess and grade student work. Provide timely feedback to students on their learning Participate in academic advisement. Maintain required instructional records. Maintain office hours. Collaborate through committee participation, college service activities, and department, division, and college meetings. Work on contractually agreed-upon activities listed within the MCCC College Agreement. Provide timely feedback to students on their learning. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: MA, MFA, or PhD degree in English, or a closely related discipline area. Experience teaching composition and literature at the college level, preferably with a minimum of three years. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The ability to modify teaching strategies to meet the needs of underprepared students who have diverse learning styles and challenges; Experience with advising and placement strategies to assist community-college, first-semester writing students in finding success in the composition classroom; Expertise in creating a learner-centered classroom environment. Desired Qualifications: A commitment to teaching writing as a process; Strong computer skills with the ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources, digital tools, and/or technologies; Experience with and desire to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: African American literature; multiethnic American literature; Latinx literature of the Americas; and courses in support of the department's degree track in Professional Writing through a CRT and/or social justice lens; Experience with or willingness to learn our learning management system and classroom media; Commitment to the community college mission; Excellent oral and written communication skills. Additional Information: Salary: $50,647.00-$88,604.00 **Actual Salary will be determined in accordance with the classification system of MCCC/MTA commensurate with Education & Experience.
