Program Director of Automotive Technology - Ammerman Campus | Suffolk County Community College - Military Veterans

Announcement is hereby made for a full-time (12-month), Program Director of Automotive Technology. This role is responsible for maintaining academic consistency, fostering communication and collaboration between campus teams, and driving excellence in automotive education. Reporting to the Ammerman Campus Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the Program Director will work closely with faculty, campus leaders, staff, campus directors, and industry partners to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality education across all locations.

This position requires a dynamic leader who is adept at coordinating complex operations across multiple sites and passionate about fostering collaboration within and outside the institution to advance automotive technology education in line with emerging industry trends. The Department of Automotive Technology currently supports multiple certificate and degree programs which include corporate-sponsored programs that grant industry-recognized credentials. The partnerships include the General Motors ASEP, Toyota T-TEN, Honda PACT, Nissan Technician Training Academy, MOPAR CAP, Subaru University and Mercedes Benz Campus, programs, and a general automotive track.

This is a Guild (Unit 4) position, and, as such, the salary and benefits for this position are determined according to the salary and benefits plan for the Guild of Administrative Officers.

Job Responsibilities:

Overall administration of the academic tracks for the program at two campuses (Ammerman and Michael J. Grant). Currently, the academic tracks are: General Motors ASEP, Toyota T-Ten, Honda PACT, and the General Automotive Program

Develop and maintain relationships with our current corporate partners and explore potential new partnerships. All attempts to expand the present program should be considered an essential element of the directors responsibilities. This includes, but is not limited to: organizing and facilitating advisory committee meetings; attendance and participation in regional and national instructor conferences held by our corporate partners.

Serve as Academic Chair of the Automotive Department and assumes all duties associated with the position.

Ensure that portfolio instructors enter students progress and achievements into the online corporate portals.

Maintain the ASE Education Foundation certifications and re-certifications for all programs and keep up-to-date program/student information as per the regulations.

Maintain all records of instructor training while creating individual instructor training plans to meet the requirements of our corporate partners and any future manufacturer partnerships. This includes scheduling instructors into the training classes.

Provide all dealers with learning objectives for our students and outline expectations for our students experiences while working in the dealerships. Visit dealers with sponsored students once a year and supervise the more frequent dealer visits required of instructors as part of the portfolio classes. The director should also continually explore dealer work opportunities for our students with dealers not on the current list.

Provide administrative oversight and responsibility for the successful implementation of corporate partnerships including: review and submission of reports, donation agreements, reimbursement requests, and other related duties.

Supervise and organize recruitment and retention activities including: high school visits, open houses, and incoming and continuing student advisement and registration for all students each semester.

Supervise the department Professional Assistant to ensure that the instructional vehicle fleet and related equipment and tooling, diagnostic systems, and software are maintained and updated and available for instruction as per the needs of the faculty and students.

Ensuring that student knowledge, skills and abilities are aligned with current academic and workforce best practices.

Incorporating engaging and appropriate academic technology into all modes of instructional delivery.

Maintaining a commitment to ongoing and research-based professional development in pedagogy and subject matter.

Participating actively in the life of their department, home campus, and the college.

Perform other related responsibilities as requested by Campus Associate Dean of Academic Affairs (direct supervisor) or Campus Executive Dean.

The ideal candidate will possess high-level strategic thinking and executive communication, strong technical analytics skills, and process-oriented mindset to drive outcomes. A proven ability to use data analysis for informed decision-making. Minimum

Bachelors degree in Automotive Technology or related field.

A minimum of five (5) years of experience working in the Automotive field, with two (2) years of the five (5) years in a management capacity.

An ASE Master Certification.

College or industry teaching experience.

Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity and student success.

Familiarity with a learning management system and/or willingness to use the Colleges LMS (i.e. Brightspace).

Preferred

Masters degree.

Bilingual Spanish.
