JOB SUMMARY
The Sonographer demonstrates competence in the area of ultrasound and vascular technology. This position should be readily capable of recognizing normal from abnormal, and significant for insignificant anomalies, anatomical structures and pathology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Other duties may be assigned.
• Demonstrates competence in OB/GYN, abdominal and neonatal (head, hip, spine, pylorus) imaging correctly identifying pathology and structures as required
• Demonstrates competence in imaging of the Upper and Lower extremity venous system for DVT.
• Demonstrates competence with biopsy procedures of the thyroid
• Performs all Critical Care request within departments time guidelines.
• Demonstrates competence in Arterial Imaging of the Abdomen, Upper and Lower Extremities.
• Demonstrates competence in Carotid/Vertebral Imaging.
• Demonstrates competence in Indirect Arterial testing of the Upper and Lower Extremities to include PVR's (Pulse Volume Recordings), Segmental Doppler Waveforms, and Segmental Pressures pre & post exercise.
• Demonstrates competence in Graft imaging, venous imaging and extremity mapping of the Upper and Lower Extremities.
• Performs all Critical Care request within departments time guidelines.
• Follows standard precautions.
• Demonstrates support and follows policies for the Student Program.
• Provides all aspects of patient care based on established standards. Demonstrates competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of patients served; the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs; knowledge of growth and development and an understanding of the range of treatment of the patients.
• Participates in the peer interview process; interview and hire.
• Demonstrates competency using the Radiographic Information System.
• Demonstrates competency using the PACS.
• Demonstrates competency in Departmental communication (telephone, pagers and intercom).
• Maintains clean and well stocked work area.
• Assists in training and orientation of new employees as needed.
• Strives to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all employees.
• Meets and exceeds the expectations of patients and all other customers we serve.
• Actively assists and supports departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget.
• Understands the principles and concepts of Performance Improvement. Looks for opportunities and solutions for process improvements and seeks to improve job skills.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• High School or GED required.
• Satisfactory completion of a formal Ultrasound program in an approved school.
• ARDMS registered required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
