Responsibilities & Qualifications
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and maintain complex software systems.
- Perform application software implementations and upgrades.
- Ensure high availability, security and integrity of assigned applications.
- Monitor applications, including setting alerts to maintain the stability of the environment and application, monitoring error logs, and automating administration tasks wherever possible.
- Install application patches and releases on development, test, pre-production, and production systems.
- Serve as key person in troubleshooting system problems.
- Create and maintain accurate system documentation for assigned systems.
- Maintain current descriptions and documentation of application and system configurations, including tracking and documenting any changes to environments.
- Assist in capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning on assigned systems.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning, including assisting with fault tolerance and disaster recovery plans. Analyzes performance trends to optimize application performance.
- Administer and maintain the DLA's VMware vSphere/vCenter environments, including installing, configuring, and upgrading virtualization platforms.
- Monitor and optimize the performance of virtual machines (VMs), troubleshooting issues and implementing solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
- Provide technical support for the deployment and management of Cloud-based services, including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS), ensuring alignment with organizational needs.
- Conduct regular system checks and audits to ensure compliance with security mandates and guidelines, implementing necessary security measures based on DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements.
- Manage the lifecycle of virtual machines, including provisioning, updates, snapshots, and backups, ensuring data integrity and availability.
- Collaborate with the Virtual Platform Management Team on project development and implementation, ensuring that all initiatives are effectively supported and aligned with organizational goals.
- Participate in incident handling and change management processes, utilizing the DLA Enterprise Service Desk (ESD) Remedy system to track and resolve incidents, work orders, and change requests promptly.
- Provide training and documentation for staff on virtualization technologies, fostering knowledge sharing and enhancing team capabilities.
- Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports on system performance, incident resolution, and compliance status, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Participate in after-hours callback support as needed, providing timely responses to urgent issues outside regular business hours.
- Experience:
- Seven (7) years of progressive experience in the management and maintenance of virtualized server environments and hosted applications.
- At least two years of qualifying experience must include managing successful large scale, multi-disciplinary (network, virtualization, systems administration) projects involving virtual servers.

- Computing Environment Certification (One of the following):
