Research Technician | University of Chicago (UC) - Military Veterans

Location: Chicago, IL Job Description: Conduct molecular dynamics simulations of proteins using replica exchange protocols. Develop high throughput methods to analyze 1000s of protein folding trajectories including their hydrogen exchange patterns by programming in python. Coordinate transfer of mass spectroscopy data from the Rocklin Group (Northwestern) to Sosnick Group (UChicago). Maintain data base of mass spectroscopy data. Design statistical methods to evaluate agreement between mass spectroscopy data and simulations, in particular, the protein thermodynamics and dynamics.  Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project. Analyzes and maintains data. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents. Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator. Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support. Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field. Performs other related work as needed. Preferred Qualifications Education: Bachelors Degree in chemistry, biophysics or related area. Experience: Familiarity with the analysis of protein folding simulations through programing using iPython notebooks. Knowledge of protein chemistry and thermodynamics. Experience in protein visualization. Experience in bioinformatics. Preferred Competencies Effective communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Problem solving skills and adaptability to changes in technological and scientific directions. Working Conditions Lab Environment.
