High School Wellness Counselor | University of North Carolina School of the Arts - Military Veterans

The Department of Counseling Services is part of UNCSAs Wellness Center and reports under the Division of Student Affairs. The purpose of Counseling Services is to provide emotional, psychological, and interpersonal support.

The High School Wellness Counselor provides both clinical needs and support the development and overall wellness of the students.

COUNSELING SERVICES

Provide personal counseling to students utilizing a variety of best-practice, evidence -based theories, techniques, skills and strategies.

Provide crisis intervention to students with acute needs and chronic mental health needs.

Assess students in crisis for possible harm to self or others providing necessary follow-up with family/guardian and UNCSA community; as well as collaborate and refer to mental health providers.

Develop individualized support plans to meet the emotional needs of students and assist in the implementation of those plans.

Develop safety plans with students.

Facilitate parent/guardian student meetings.

Collaborate and facilitate communication with students, parents, faculty, staff, health care providers, mental health professionals to ensure that students emotional, residential, academic and other needs are supported.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION

Plan, organize and coordinate prevention activities and presentations, including trainings, workshops and awareness events.

Develop, implement, and assess campus prevention programs for high school students.

Provide appropriate screenings for high school students on a range or topics including but not limited to depression, anxiety, stress reduction, etc.

Increase prevention programming for mental health support by collaborating with high school life, high school academics and arts schools.

Support developmental education, as part of the overall responsibility of the Division of Student Life.

ADMINISTRATIVE

Develop and provide professional development opportunities for faculty and staff in support of student wellness.

Participate in high school life programs including social events and activities.

Masters Degree required, preferably in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or Mental Health or a related field with 3-5 years of experience and licensure in the appropriate clinical field.

Preferred

Masters Degree required, preferably in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or Mental Health or a related field and five years experience working with students in educational setting at the secondary (high school) level. Commensurate with education and experience
