Job Summary and Qualifications
The Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting Galen’s internal and external communication channels, including writing internal awareness and promotional communications, press releases, media relations and inquiries, HCA Healthcare relations, and special projects. This role reports to Galen’s Director of Communications and is an intuitive communicator, supporting a complex College-wide communication ecosystem while growing external brand engagement and advocacy. The Communications Specialist should represent excellence in all written and verbal communications with keen attention to detail as a proactive specialist, with an enthusiastic team spirit and self-motivation to develop and execute world-class communications initiatives.
Position Responsibilities:
- Fulfill internal communications needs including, but not limited to, emails, newsletters, presentations, academic support, faculty and staff communications, student communications, alumni outreach, video development, and more.
- Assist in the production of the College’s bi-weekly Town Hall.
- Manage the College’s internal website, Pure Community, by publishing internally relevant articles, news, announcements, events, and more.
- Support team members across the College in HCA Healthcare/Galen integration communication efforts.
- Project manage and execute all Press Releases and media pitching.
- Curate engaging and original content including articles, gated content, webinars, videos, podcasts, etc.
- Collaborate with Social Media and Digital Specialists to share content across all owned channels.
- Establish and define key performance indicators (KPIs) to define benchmarks for content performance and optimization.
- Coordinate with the Communications Director and other MarComm team members to ensure brand consistency across all communications.

Position Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in a communications/public relations/copywriter role
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing/PR, journalism, or other related field
- Proven work experience as a strong communications and PR specialist
- Ability to identify and promote newsworthy stories and events to support the Galen brand and the Galen/HCA Healthcare relationship
- Expertise in written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to generate and execute content strategies for multiple target audiences
- Proven ability to collaborate in a team setting
- Write engaging and well-crafted press releases
- Strong time management skills with obsessive attention to detail
- Proven success managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
- Professional and effective presentation skills
- Proven ability to build collaborative and positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment: Must be able to sit at a desk for up to eight (8) hours.
