Job Overview
The College of Medicine, Department of Surgery is looking for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP). The APP will assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients of the Section of General Surgery, Division of Trauma and Critical Care in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). This position is assigned to the acute care hospital setting for our complex surgical ICU patients such as acute care surgery, thoracic surgery, trauma, transplant surgery, and gynecologic surgery as examples. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.
The APP must be available to work some weekends.
Essential Functions
- Primary responsibilities will be to collaborate with interdisciplinary health care team caring for trauma, emergency general surgery, and critically ill patients, managing both their acute and chronic health care needs.
- The APP will demonstrate an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, with the ability to evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment for the complex surgical and critically ill patients from admission to stabilization and transfer out of ICU.
- The APP must demonstrate clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgement, professionalism, and compliant documentation in a timely manner.
Minimum Requirements
Nurse Practitioner:
Required Education
Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
Required Trainings/Certifications
- Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority.
- Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty.
- Three (3) years of nursing experience.
- Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.
- OR -
Physician Assistant:
Required Education
Master's Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Required Trainings/Certifications
- Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority.
- Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience is required.
- Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Nurse Practitioner:
- Four (4) years of nursing experience in a critical care setting.
- ATLS ideal or obtained within six (6) months of hire.
- OR -
Physician Assistant:
ATLS ideal or obtained within 6 months of hire.
