Job Summary and Qualifications
The Anesthesia Technician plays a crucial role in delivering top-notch, patient-centered care by providing essential anesthesia support to the anesthesia clinician during surgical procedures. Their proactive approach to preparing and maintaining supplies, patient monitoring equipment, and anesthesia delivery systems helps anticipate the clinician's needs. As a member of the perioperative team, the Anesthesia Technician collaborates with the circulating RN and the perioperative team to ensure a safe and optimal patient perioperative experience.
Prepares and organizes equipment and supplies for scheduled and emergent cases in anesthetising locations. Review present and future surgical schedules to ensure anesthesia staff have the essential equipment and supplies necessary for routine and challenging cases.
Transports and sets up equipment needed for procedures, including laryngoscope blades, monitors, EKG cables, ETCO2 lines, pulse oximetry cables, temperature cables, and oxygen tanks/tubing. Assures equipment is decontaminated and in good working condition before each procedure.
Follows department procedures for proper procurement and handling of non-controlled medications, I.V. fluids, contrast media, and irrigating fluids in the surgical services area.
Performs thorough, prompt room turnover between procedures, including cleaning and disinfection, restocking of anesthesia supplies, and cleaning/storing of anesthesia equipment and instrumentation as needed. Demonstrates proficiency with equipment point-of-use care and transport, including initial bedside decontamination of TEE probe and bronchoscope.
Calibrates and troubleshoots minor malfunctions of anesthesia equipment. Removes and reports all damaged or unsafe equipment.
Responds promptly to on-call situations as scheduled.
What qualifications you will need:- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- 1+ yrs experience in acute setting required
- 1+ yrs experience as an Anesthesia Tech required
