Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary We are looking for a new staff member to assist with a variety of animal behavioral and metabolic analysis in mouse models of osteoarthritis. The position will also assist with basic molecular biology techniques and offers additional learning opportunities in highly specific and cutting-edge methodology to assess osteoarthritis pain and pathology. The ideal candidate will be passionate about science and learning new techniques, able to work both collaboratively and independently, and contribute to a highly motivated, efficient research group. We are a diverse and vibrant team looking for a Research Technician to join the laboratory of Dr. Farshid Guilak. Our group primarily studies osteoarthritis with the aim of developing preventative and regenerative therapeutic strategies using in vitro and in vivo models. Specific ongoing studies combine scientific interests in obesity, knee joint injury, womens health, and developmental programming mechanisms leading to osteoarthritis progression and prevention across the lifespan. Assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Assists with research studies, experiments and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment. Assists with general mouse line maintenance. Assists with animal behavioral testing. Assists with animal surgery and care. Assists with tissue dissection and analysis. Assists with and performing molecular biology techniques. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning. Other general lab duties as assigned. Working Conditions Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
