Job Summary

The College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC) seeks applicants for a Part-Time Communications Editor in our Office of Communications and Marketing. This position will report to the CADC Communications Manager and work closely with all CADC units to write design and construction-related articles and captions highlighting CADC initiatives, accomplishments, projects, events and stakeholders for print and electronic media. The position requires approximately 20 hours per week.

This job may be eligible for remote work per university guidelines and policies.

CADC: The college is comprised of three notable schools: the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture; the McWhorter School of Building Science; and the School of Industrial and Graphic Design. Essential Functions

Essential functions include but are not limited to:
1. Researches, writes and edits original content on a consistent basis, including internal and external stories, articles, captions, newsletters, advertisements, invitations and news releases for publications, the media and other outlets. Advises and consults with CADC faculty and staff during the research phase.

2. Collaborates with CADC Communications Manager and other staff to disseminate content to CADC website, publications and other materials. Uploads content to CADC website for review.

3. Ensures CADC's brand consistency through tone, voice and terminology.

4. Reviews external content for republishing at the request of CADC leadership and CADC Communications Manager.

5. Submits material to external entities as needed.

6. Works with CADC Communications Manager to design, develop and evaluate strategies related to communications, public relations and marketing programs.

7. Maintains files, databases and electronic records of materials.

8. May supervise others in the production or coordination of deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Mass Communications or related field.

Typical hourly pay rates are between $20.75 and $23.72

Full grade range $17.79 - $26.68

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of database and web content management.

Minimum Technology Skills

Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of writing.

Minimum License and Certifications

Writing experience and/or background in architecture, design, construction, or creative fields is preferred but not required.

    Auburn University was established in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College, 20 years after the city of Auburn's founding. In 1872, under the Morrill Act, the school became the first land-grant college in the South and was renamed the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. In 1899 the name again was changed, to the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Finally, in 1960 the name of the school was changed to Auburn University, a title more in keeping with its location, and expressing the varied academic programs and larger curriculum of a major university.
