The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology-Oncology is recruiting for a full-time (100% FTE) Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant . This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.

Under general supervision from a designated administrator, assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients in malignant hematology with a primary focus in bone marrow transplant. The individual will provide patient/family education and will be expected to participate in teaching activities for students, residents and fellows.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of bone marrow transplant patients.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests.
  • Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Collaborate with other providers and members of the health care team in delivery of care and make appropriate referrals when needed.
  • Educate patients and families about medical conditions and treatment plans.
  • Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision making using evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in research and development projects.
  • Participate in education of nurse practitioners, nurse practitioner students and medical students.

Minimum Requirements

Nurse Practitioner:

Required Education
A Master's degree in nursing and graduation from an accredited nursing program.
Required Trainings/Certifications
  • Current/valid APRN license to practice in the state of Ohio with prescriptive authority prior to start.
  • Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty.
Required Experience
At least three (3) years nursing experience.

Physician Assistant:

Required Education
Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies.
Required Trainings/Certifications
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Current/valid PA license to practice in the state of Ohio.
Required Experience
A minimum of one year PA experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • At least 2-3 years of experience working and treating patients with Hematology-Oncology related health issues.
  • Comfortable with conducting shared medical appointments.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting in front of large groups.
  • Individual should enjoy being part of multi-disciplinary team.
