The Finance and Accounting organization is a mission and results driven team that operates with a strong sense of collaboration to support the business, while utilizing our technical expertise, as we manage processes to record, reconcile, and report all financial activity of the enterprise. The opportunity:

The Senior Accountant will support the implementation and ongoing accounting for multiple Smurfit WestRock divisions. Individual must be a self-starter and have leadership skills to advance the organization. Must be strong in communication skills both written and verbal to interact with all levels of the organization.

This is a hybrid position with 3 days in the office.

How you will impact Smurfit WestRock:

  • Prepare and review accruals for payroll, utilities, holiday, vacation, temp labor and other miscellaneous accruals related to the divisional locations,
  • Review and analyses for plants outside expected tolerance range,
  • Review of JDE to ensure GL Coding is accurate,
  • Point of contact for divisional locations regarding accounting related questions,
  • Comply with SOX controls and GAAP to ensure a solid internal control,
  • Lead special projects to drive continuous process improvement,
  • Provide updates to Management on a regular basis,
  • Prepare and review journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations within Blackline,
  • Perform special accounting projects as assigned,
  • Assist in audit processes through the preparation of schedules and communications with internal and external auditors.

What you need to succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Strong communication skills,
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills,
  • Month end close experience,
  • Deadline driven,
  • Forward thinker,
  • Financial expertise and the ability to apply financial principles in a manufacturing environment,
  • Able to build effective teams and support plant initiatives, goals and demonstrate a positive attitude towards others,
  • Sets priorities, establish objectives/milestones and schedule activities effectively,
  • Experience with JD Edwards, Hyperion and Blackline preferred,
  • High level of Microsoft Office proficiency with advanced level of Excel required.
