The Center for Voice Intelligence and Security (CVIS) at Carnegie Mellon University's Language Technologies Institute seeks a dedicated Research Assistant to contribute to groundbreaking projects in multi-modal deep fake detection. This role involves developing, implementing, and testing advanced algorithms for detecting deep fakes across various media types, including video, audio, and images. The successful candidate will work within a dynamic team environment, leveraging state-of-the-art machine learning and AI techniques to enhance multimedia content verification

Core responsibilities include:

  • Algorithm Development for Deep Fake Detection
  • Develop scalable algorithms capable of analyzing and verifying the authenticity of multimedia content
  • Focus on image-based detection using capture-based features, signal processing differences, and physics-based inconsistencies
  • Investigate statistical differences between features extracted from synthetic and real images
  • Conduct rigorous testing and validation of developed algorithms
  • Contribute to research papers for reputed venues based on the technical advances made in the project
  • Proficiency and integrity within conducting thorough and accurate research

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Signal Processing, or a related field
  • Advanced degrees (Master's or Ph.D.) are a plus
  • Proficiency in machine learning, signal processing, and algorithm development
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++
  • Understanding of multimedia processing, including image, audio, and video analysis
  • Experience with AI models and algorithms, especially in the context of deep fake detection and multimodal systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a creative approach to overcoming technical challenges
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered
