Scientist in Virology (Herpes) - Military Veterans

In the plan to create a new hub for mRNA-based vaccine discovery in Cambridge, we are building new laboratories that will be focused on the development of state-of-the-art methods that will be supporting deep product understanding, process and product development, as well as testing of pre-clinical and clinical samples for new mRNA-based vaccines.

As a Scientist, you will be expected to be able to use your knowledge of virology and molecular biology to independently design and execute experiments with guidance from the lab head and project teams. You must be self-motivated to deliver vaccine program objectives on time, and be able to identify and mitigate any potential delays.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Apply virology and molecular biology expertise to the design and development of GSK vaccine projects

  • Implementation of new technologies to help drive vaccine development

  • Provide effective and inspiring leadership with an enterprise mindset, ensuring support to professional development and qualification of staff

  • Possesses strong scientific leadership to enable collaboration with key scientific internal and external stakeholders.

  • Publish in peer reviewed journals



Basic Qualifications:


  • PhD with 0+ years of post-doc and/or job-related experience, MS with 3+ years of experience, or BS with 6+ years of experience.

  • Three or more years of experience with herpes viruses (Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, varicella-zoster virus)

  • Two or more years of conducting a wide variety of molecular biology techniques

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey complex scientific data

  • Basic skills in statistical analysis

  • Fluency in spoken and written English



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Herpesvirus genetic manipulation systems (BACs, CRISPR, etc.)

  • Virus pseudotype systems (lenti/retrovirus or VSV)

  • Saturation mutagenesis screening

  • Working with large project teams in a matrix environment.


  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey complex scientific data

  • Basic skills in statistical analysis

  • Fluency in spoken and written English
