UMN Morris Assistant Track and Field Coach - Military Veterans

The assistant coach is responsible for supporting all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division III track and field program. The assistant coach assists the head coach in student recruitment and retention; coaches student athletes and fosters their skill development; assists in coaching plans and implementation at practices and competitions; provides for students' safety, health and wellbeing; complies with NCAA, UMAC and university policies; provides sound fiscal management; assists in equipment oversight, scheduling, travel planning, and summer camps; assists in off-season programs and athlete development; and assists in program communication and fundraising efforts with the Head Coach. The assistant coach will work with the head coach to build a shared vision, work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, build and retain a diverse and talented team, foster good sportsmanship and a climate of respect, and provide an environment that supports students in achieving their athletic, academic and life goals.

This position will also carry an additional responsibility within Cougar Athletics.

This is a 75%, 10-month, annually renewable coaching appointment. The position carries a $28,000-$30,000 annual salary, comprehensive benefit package, and the opportunity for an on-campus housing package depending on circumstance.

Essential knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • A Bachelor's degree and demonstrated effectiveness playing and/or coaching track and field is required - sprints and jumps experience preferred.
  • A Master's degree, college coaching experience and/or participation at the collegiate level are preferred.

  • Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills
  • An appreciation for the philosophy of the NCAA Division III

  • A demonstrated commitment to students' athletic and academic success

  • The successful candidate will demonstrate an appreciation for the mission and value of a public liberal arts college, be self-directed and motivated, work with integrity, and bring skills and abilities needed to advance Cougar track and field, the athletic programs, and the University.
