Summary:
The Segment Data Officer works in partnership with our Chief Data & Architecture Office and acts as the execution arm of data governance and management within the Commercial Banking segment.
This position is responsible for leading a team responsible for the identifying and managing critical data elements, including the associated data quality, metadata, lineage, and reference data, ensuring the data produced by the segment is fit for purpose for both regulatory and management reporting, prioritizing data and analytics-related issues and needs, managing data-related requests, and supporting the data literacy within a business segment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a subject matter expert and accountable for the data within the scope of the Commercial Banking segment.
- Drives effective data management and governance practices and ensures adherence to the Data Policy and standards.
- Ensures change management practices are consistently applied.
- Accountable for managing the prioritization and analytics-related issues and needs.
- Owns approval authority over data-related decisions within the Commercial Bank.
- Works closely with Enterprise Data leaders, Data Governance & Advisory Council, Data Trustees & Curators, and technology partners across the data lifecycle.
- Collaborates with the other Segment Data Offices on data matters that cross-business segments and escalates to our governing Data Governance & Advisory Council (DGAC) when required.
- Accountable for the business’ critical data elements, including the ongoing improvement of data quality, its technical metadata, the associated business definitions, lineage, and reference data within the Commercial Banking segment.
- Strong understanding of the legal, compliance, and regulatory issues impacting data.
- Ensures the data for regulatory and management reporting is fit for purpose.
- Responsible for data-related controls on systems that support segment processes and customers.
- Partners with the CDAO (Chief Data & Architecture Office) Data Literacy Leader to drive literacy efforts within the segment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 10 + years of work experience in a data environment, with 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and implementing data management and governance frameworks
- 5+ years of experience as a Hands-on manager with a proven record of leading and growing successful teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the commercial banking landscape, paired wit expertise in Data Management and Governance.
- Well-versed in industry best practices, tools, and techniques for data management and governance
- Knowledgeable and experienced with Data Management and Governance policies, standards, metrics, controls, and processes
- Excellent negotiation, influencing, and partnership skills
