Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: Answer and route all incoming calls to switchboard in a courteous and professional manner, calmly handle communication of reported emergency codes and alarms, maintains related records, other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential core function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, experience, and ability necessary to perform this job.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Pages all personnel as authorized in department procedures.

· Pages, verifies, and records all emergency codes.

· Reports all telephone repair problems to appropriate area as directed in department procedures.

· Monitors all alarm indicators, enunciators and monitors located in the PBX operator room including medical gas alarm, oxygen line pressure, fire alarm panel, and reports immediately to Plant Operations when monitors go into alarm.

· Monitors Code indicators and dedicated Code One (I) phone line at switchboard; responds immediately if alarms activate as authorized in departmental procedures.

· Maintains records for beepers, logs beepers in/out, dispenses batteries, reports needed repairs to Materiel Management.

· Maintains record of keys in department; logs keys in/out, reports lost/broken keys to Supervisor.

· Uses cell phones, PPT, two-way radio to contact security, plant ops or essential personnel.

· Uses beepers or cells for both in-house and off-premises messages,

· Monitors my child, pages code pink, monitors and activates hospital wide lock down as directed by leadership based on policy and procedures.

· Responds and logs date, time and physician requesting to open parking lot gate.

· Monitors CCTV and reports activities of concern to security or leadership.

· Reviews Communications Journal at beginning of each shift.

· Records information into Communications Journal, including codes, customer/employer complaints, equipment problems/repairs, notable incidents, safety issues/concerns, and any other information that needs to be communicated to other shifts.

· Assists with and records all long-distance calls handled for patients and authorized personnel, as authorized; records information on calls into long-distance call book.

· Reports supply and equipment needs to supervisor.

· Participates in emergency preparedness drills and actual emergencies as instructed in the hospital safety manual.

    · Follows established patient safety guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm.


    EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

    High school diploma or equivalent

    Applicable work experience may substitute for education

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

    3-5 years experience specific to trade and/or responsibilities.
