Position Title: Assistant/Associate General Counsel School/Division: Legal Affairs Full Time/Part Time: Full-Time Description: Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, the Assistant/Associate General Counsel provides legal advice to the University with a primary focus on business affairs; contract review, drafting and negotiation; intellectual property; data privacy and security; and regulatory compliance. The incumbent will work closely with the Deputy General Counsel and other university offices to support the legal needs of the institution. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provides legal advice relating to the review, drafting and negotiating of complex contracts across various University departments, including information technology, academic affairs, marketing and communications, plant and facilities, development and alumni affairs, athletics, student affairs and enrollment management; Acts as liaison for and provides legal counsel to the Office of Financial Affairs, including in the areas of risk, insurance, pension plan, tax and contracts; Provides advice to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs regarding intellectual property matters, government and private grant compliance, research collaborations, and contracts; Advises university administrators and faculty on legal and business implications of contractual and policy decisions and provides strategic legal advice on the development and implementation of institutional policies; Provides legal advice relating to the review and drafting of university policies and procedures; Conducts legal research in the diverse areas of law faced by higher education institutions and provides legal memoranda, advice and legal analysis on compliance and the regulatory impact on University operations; Provides opinion, advice and analysis to academic and administrative offices regarding contracts; scientific research projects and collaborations; and regarding legal compliance in areas such as FCC / WRHU , data privacy and security, non-profit and charitable solicitation law, donation agreements, trusts and estates, employment and benefits law, environmental and occupational safety, financial aid and trademark/patent administration; Other responsibilities as assigned based on the needs of the University.
