The Lab Assistant will also be responsible for contributing to scientific projects, including conducting literature reviews, data entry, preparing data for analysis, ensuring rigor and reproducibility, authoring posters for presentation, and/or authoring manuscripts for publication. This position is ideal for a motivated individual interested in pursuing an advanced degree in psychology or a related field. The full salary range for the Lab Assistant is $20.01 - $23.16 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $20.78 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Requirements: Educational Requirements Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma Required Bachelors degree in psychology, or related field Preferred Experience Requirements Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience or two years of college courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Required Experience with managing large-scale and sensitive datasets. Preferred Experience with maintaining data security and IRB protocols. Preferred Experience with managing teams of research assistants. Preferred Experience conducting independent research in psychology. For information about our generous employee benefits package, visit: Employee Benefits Overview Job Description Details: General Information Job Title LAB AST 1 Job Code 009605 Grade Department Head Tuppett Yates Supervisor Olivia Atherton Department Custom Scope Dr. Olivia Atherton is seeking one part-time Lab Assistant to begin December 2024 in the Self-Regulation, Contexts, and Health (SRCH) Lab in the Department of Psychology. This is a part-time 50% appointment, one-year position with the opportunity for renewal depending on funding, lab needs, and performance. The SRCH Lab (www.srchlab.ucr.edu) conducts research at the intersection of social-personality, health, and developmental psychology and tries to answer research questions such as: How does self-regulation develop across the lifespan? What sociocultural contexts predict self-regulation development? And, how are sociocultural contexts and self-regulation related to mental and physical health? To answer these questions, the SRCH Lab uses large-scale longitudinal studies, advanced statistical techniques, administrative records, and geographical linkage data. The Lab Assistant will primarily work with the lab on a recently-funded NIH grant that aims to conduct geographical linkages for an existing longitudinal study of Mexican-origin families (the California Families Project; https://www.californiafamiliesproject.org/). Key Responsibilities: The Lab Assistant will be involved in recruiting, interviewing, and managing a team of 3-5 undergraduate research assistants. Recruitment activities may involve posting or sending flyers and/or attending university/community events. Interviewing involves assisting Dr. Atherton with reading and selecting applications and holding interviews with applicants. Managing a team of undergraduate research assistants involves being responsible for onboarding/offboarding, training on lab tasks, overseeing data entry, developing efficient workflows, and promoting the professional development of research assistants by holding occasional workshops, journal clubs, etc. 50% The Lab Assistant will be involved in data security, storage, monitoring, analysis, and reproducibility. Data security will include assisting with the development of protocols to maintaining participant confidentiality, and assisting with paperwork for the IRB, material transfers, and data use agreements. Data storage will include assisting Dr. Atherton with setting up laboratory systems to store and organize large-scale data from various longitudinal and geographical sources. Data monitoring activities include organizing and maintaining databases, developing processes of quality control checks for data entry, and conducting quality control checks. Data analysis activities involve developing progress reports and conducting higher-level data cleaning and descriptive statistics, under the supervision of Dr. Atherton.
