Bridge Coordinator/Retention Advisor - Military Veterans

Alabama State University, Academic Center for Educational Success, invites applications to fill the position of Bridge Coordinator/Retention Advisor. This position will be responsible for providing and coordinating academic support services to current and incoming academically at-risk students, promoting a culture of retention, maintaining accurate advising records, and sustaining a holistic environment conducive to student success as written ASU's Strategic Plan.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate efforts with the Admissions Office to identify and then server eligible incoming first-year students assigned to attend the Summer Bridge (SB programs
- Assist the AVP of Student Affairs with selecting and orientating the Summer Bridge faculty and Peer Mentors
- Manages the SB Peer Mentor staff
- Serve as a presenter for SB New Student Orientation
- Develop and maintain accurate knowledge of the University's academic and satisfactory academic progress SAP policies, Student Handbook, Undergraduate Catalog, and the Academic Advisement Center's reference guide
- Maintain accurate knowledge of general and specific curricular core requirements
- Review and analyze pertinent data on students to determine their course schedules and academic improvement plans as deemed appropriate
- Approves at-risk student's proposed course schedule/course addition each term and confer with the dean and/or appropriate department chair regarding courses or schedule adjustments
- Support assigned students with gaining knowledge of various academic programs and guide them in selecting a program of study compatible with their career interests and goals
- Develop and implement academic support activities for assigned students
- Use the Early Alert system to monitor, track, and report on assigned students' academic progress
- Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in secondary or post-secondary education, psychology, student affairs, or a related academic field and 5 years of full-time professional experience working directly with at-risk college/university students. Master's degree preferred.
