Job Summary:

Responsible for the retrieval of shopping carts dispersed throughout the NEX parking lot and nearby parking vicinities. Ensures availability of shopping carts to patrons by ensuring only properly functioning shopping carts are in circulation clear of debris and stored in shopping cart corral for customers to access.

Duties and Responsibilities: Uses caution and is attentive to surroundings to prevent accidents or mishaps while gathering abandoned shopping carts located within the NEX facility ies and nearby vicinities outside. Removes abandoned shopping carts in NEX vestibules and other areas within the NEX store as needed and required. - Gathers shopping carts to arrange in joined-interlocked formation required to maneuver multiple carts simultaneously to designated areas for customers to easily access. - Gathers and arranges shopping carts in an orderly assembly in designated shopping cart corrals. - Maintain cart inventory and Segregates malfunctioning shopping carts from others operating properly and notifies Operations Manager of losses malfunctioning non-repairable carts and reports safety related issues to Operations Manager and Loss Prevention as necessary. - Accounts for electric carts and ensures they are fully charged. Plugs unoccupied electric carts in electrical outlets for recharging and monitors status of the recharge. - Retrieves shopping carts upon the request of customers and ensures the shopping cart is free of debris and functions properly. - May performs various duties in connection with loading and unloading merchandise into customer shopping carts and assisting customers unload the merchandise as requested. - Lifts and carries patron s purchases including merchandise beverages soda etc. from retail store or warehouse to customer s vehicle. - May assist in maintaining NEX store fitting rooms as required. - Maintains working areas and ensure areas are in a clean and orderly condition. Removes and places debris from shopping carts in trash receptacles as necessary. As required may maintain parking lot cleanliness by picking up debris emptying trash receptacles as needed. - Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor who makes assignments and provides detailed instructions on new or non-standard procedures. Work is reviewed for compliance with instructions. Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL EFFORT Is frequently required to push and or pull a collection of shopping carts totaling weights up to 45 pounds. Performs duties while standing pushing pulling and walking for long periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS Works inside or outside occasionally in inclement weather. Is subject to bruises cuts and scratches from pushing and pulling shopping carts and handling of customer bagged packaged merchandise

WORK HOURS: Available to work a variety of hours which may include early morning's evenings weekends and holidays.

May be asked to work Thanksgiving week to include Navy Blue Friday

This is a Seasonal Position with an end date of 12/31/2024

This position is covered by American Federation of Government Employees Local 3723 Union Agreement

Requirements

No experience is required High School graduate or equivalent is preferred. Physical requirements Required to push and or pull a collection of shopping carts totaling up to 45 pounds performs duties standing and standing pushing pulling and walking for long periods of time.

The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) is the headquarters for the worldwide NEXCOM Enterprise and is one of 11 commands under the Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP).

NEXCOM oversees six primary business programs:

  • Navy Exchange (NEX) Retail Stores and Services

  • Navy Clothing Textile and Research Facility (NCTRF)
  • Ships Stores Program
  • Telecommunications Program Office (TPO)

With the exception of the Ships Store Program, the NEXCOM Enterprise conducts its operations as a federal non-appropriated funded instrumentality. As such, the command is self-supporting with 70 percent of its profits given to Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs and the remaining 30 percent reinvested in NEX buildings and equipment.

NEXCOM is a military organization and is subject to congressional legislation as well as oversight from the Department of the Navy. NEXCOM’s parent command is the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP).

The NEXCOM Enterprise boasts over 14,000 civilian associates in a wide variety of jobs worldwide, over 40 percent of whom are military affiliated as either family members or veterans. The bulk of NEXCOM’s workforce is comprised of government non-appropriated civilians, many of whom are also military affiliated as either family members or veterans.
