Assistant Professor, Media, Culture, and Communication - Military Veterans

at HERC- Upper MidWest

POSITION DESCRIPTION: New York University?s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for an entry-level tenure-track Assistant Professorship to begin in September 2025. The appointed faculty member will be part of the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication (MCC). Candidates should demonstrate clear research specialization(s) and teaching range, while also speaking to the field of media studies more generally. To complement and extend existing strengths in the department, we welcome candidates working on topics including (but not limited to) the following: sustainability, infrastructure, and environmental media. Applicants working on these or other topics from the perspective of the Global South or from points of view not traditionally part of the disciplinary canon, and/or among marginalized communities or Indigenous peoples, are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will complement current faculty in MCC working on racial justice, the politics of visual culture, transnational/transcultural media, critical disability studies, and other initiatives focusing on de-centering normative perspectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct research; teach and advise undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students; participate in faculty meetings, serve on committees, and provide other service to the School and University.

NYU's dynamic Global Network University includes NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU Shanghai, and international programs and academic centers around the world. NYU Steinhardt faculty may have the opportunity to engage in research and teaching at these global study and research sites.

In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate?s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

PhD in hand by August 2025 and an active agenda of research, publication, and teaching, with the potential for service to the Department, School, and University, as well as a demonstrated success in teaching.
