The American Red Cross is currently seeking Senior Analyst to support the Disaster Decision Support Team.

The position is Work from Home with preference for the west coast; but, can work from anywhere in the continental U.S. if willing to work west coast hours. 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Provide management and oversight of a program ensuring that implementation and defined activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives. Provide planning, design and implementation support to assigned program area. Analyze program activity and identify areas for improvement. May work with internal and external contacts to develop program strategies and proposal initiatives. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.

We are looking for an adaptive, detail-oriented, and resilient individual to join our disaster operations decision support team. This person will work within the American Red Cross to integrate, share, analyze, and visualize data, particularly Disaster Cycle Services information. They will spearhead cultural changes within the disaster operations part of the organization to increase data-driven decision-making and lead a data analytics community of practice within the American Red Cross. 

This person will work within a high-pressure disaster response environment and must thrive in the face of ambiguity, rapidly changing priorities, and urgent requests. They should have exceptional attention to detail and the patience to troubleshoot complex problems, often requiring many hours of investigation. Independence and self-reliance are key, as this individual must be able to solve problems without needing constant guidance or support, while also knowing when to escalate critical issues. The ideal candidate will excel at managing multiple tasks simultaneously and delivering accurate and timely solutions under tight deadlines. 

They will collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams, lending expertise in databasing and visualization. The ideal candidate will have the ability to simultaneously learn, teach, lead, and follow.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD:

Direct and coordinate activities concerned with implementation and carrying out objectives of program function or activity. May be responsible for the planning, execution and evaluation of a specific project or program.

Ensure integration of assigned project or function with overall program initiatives.

Collect and analyze data, identify areas of need and/or improvement, and develop recommendations for program improvement. Develop reports on project status and issues for management review.

Administer processes within assigned program area. Analyze operating practices and recommend revisions to improve established procedures.

May work in conjunction with internal departments and external government and/or non-government agencies in the development of program strategies and proposal initiatives as required.

Specific responsibilities:

Effectively and accurately transform disaster data into actionable information. Design data solutions that provide key insights to various stakeholders, enabling them to make informed decisions based on facts and trends. 

Successfully read, write, and communicate disaster data in context, highlighting the business value to be gained. 

Advise senior leaders using data visualization during reporting and analysis. Create and maintain data visualizations using PowerBI and/or other Business Intelligence (BI) tools. 

Maintain existing data stores and build robust relational data models. 

Analyze and improve existing data processes and systems. Create, implement, and maintain data-gathering systems and business processes within Microsoft Platform management systems, and other relevant platforms. 

Perform project management tasks: conducting discovery calls and gathering requirements, planning project schedules and scope, risk management, change management, and documentation. 

Develop, train, and support a community of analysts. 

Support operations as necessary and be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as required. 

Work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with rapidly changing priorities, responding quickly to urgent requests and stressful situations. 

Investigate and troubleshoot complex problems with patience and persistence, demonstrating a high level of attention to detail. 

Work independently, solving problems without the need for constant oversight, and escalate issues only when necessary. 

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

Education: Bachelor's degree required.

Experience: Minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

Management Experience: N/a

Skills & Abilities: Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of program or service. Demonstrated ability in creating presentations and developing training modules. Excellent oral and communication skills, including training and presentations. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Develop project plans, budgets, and strategies to achieve organizational goals. Demonstrate analytical and decision-making skills to develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements. Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Ability to work on a team.

Travel: Travel may be required.

Experience taking on open-ended problems and delivering creative solutions. 

Proficiency with Power BI, including creating and maintaining data visualizations. 

Proficiency with Office 365 suite. Experience with PowerApps, Power Automate, and SharePoint. 

Relational database management experience. 

Solid understanding of Business Intelligence and Data Visualization concepts. 

Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. 

Comfortable training and engaging with diverse groups. 

Ability to work with a team of analysts to validate and clean data being ingested into systems, design and build data visualizations, and conduct quality assurance to ensure accuracy and reliability. 

Experience providing support and troubleshooting for hardware/software issues. 

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to troubleshoot issues independently and thoroughly. 

Good verbal and written communication skills. 

High attention to detail, patience, and the ability to work through complex issues over extended periods. 

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities and under tight deadlines, while maintaining accuracy and composure in stressful situations. 

Preferred: 

Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). 

Background or experience with statistics and data science. 

Experience with programming, scripting, or statistical packages (Python, R, SQL, etc.). 

Experience with Emergency Management Platforms (WebEOC and others). 

For those candidates located in Colorado or Connecticut or New York, the salary range for this position is: $85,000- 110,000.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic).  The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
