2D Lab Manager - College of Fine Arts (CFA) - School of Design | Carnegie Mellon University - Military Veterans

Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design is searching for a part-time Lab Manager for their 2D Lab. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing support being responsible for full maintenance and safety inspection of all equipment. This includes ordering all supplies, preparing and delivering printing workshops, and advising and helping students understand how to produce artifacts and execute project goals. Machinery and equipment that this role oversees includes: 3 Letterpress Machines - (2) Vandercook SP-15 (1) Vandercook 219 OS Epson large format P8000 printer (44-inch max paper width) Screen printing equipment including a four-screen color t-shirt press and a heat transfer press: Electric Paper cutter - Fully programmable hydraulic 18x24 cutter. Glue Binding Machine - Used to glue perfect-bound books, notepads, and booklets. Book Stitcher - Machine to create staples to bind zines, full-sized magazines, notepads & booklets. RISO SF9450 printer Physical Type (over 60 different complete set collections) Vintage printing blocks and cuts (Unique copper and wood type-high images from the 1940's-1960's) Ink mixing tables (Two large full glass tables for large ink mixing projects) Professional Letterpress Tools - 20 Type Setters, 20 Ink Knives, 20 Pica Poles, 12 Chases & Solid Steel Stone. The position will be contracted for 10 hours a week for the fall (October - December) and spring semesters (January - May). This position requires some flexibility in scheduling as changes may occur. Fall schedule needs are currently Wednesday: 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday: 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Flexibility, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within CFA. Qualifications: Associates Degree 1-3 years experience A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
